First, let me thank you for taking the first step to improve your mental health and your life. It’s normal to feel nervous and anxious when seeking therapy and it can be uncomfortable and even confusing at first. I strive to create a respectful, confidential, comfortable, safe environment that allows and encourages clients to explore their thoughts and feelings and to find a healthy and empowering voice to help improve mood, reduce negative emotions and improve daily functioning at work and home. I help clients gain and regain control in their lives, to create healthy boundaries, to gain insight to understand and manage unhealthy, unhelpful emotions, and behaviors by developing new perspectives and coping tools and strategies to increase problem solving, confidence, self-esteem, self care and to improve their overall well being. I am Deidre Jones- Soll, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia, a Board Certified Diplomat and a Master Addiction Counselor with over 25+ years of clinical experience and training in a variety of evidence based treatment modalities that have allowed me to effectively treat individuals experiencing a variety of mental health issues and life stressors, including anxiety, depression, grief, and loss, insomnia, work stress, relationship issues, lack of motivation, low self-esteem, and lack of confidence, trauma, and life transitions, and adjustments concerns especially related to military service. In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In your first session, I will create a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for you to open up and explore your thoughts and feelings and to share your issues and concerns. I will ask questions regarding your mental health, previous treatment and your life experiences which will allow me to get to know you and to help you identify your needs and goals for therapy. I will help you identify 2 -3 therapy goals that we will work on in your therapy sessions. We will discuss the recommended treatment modalities to be used in your therapy sessions, your therapy expectations, homework to be given if any, and how often we will meet. “I believe you are the expert in your life story and the master of your journey” My goal is to help you tell your story, to help you find your healthy voice, to build your self esteem and confidence, to help you learn healthy coping skills, tools and resources to create the changes you desire.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strength is my ability to engage with clients and to help them feel safe, supported, and respected as they participate in therapy. I have many years of experiences in a variety of clinical psychiatric treatment settings working with a variety of mental health conditions. I have 25+ years of clinical experience, providing mental health treatments to patients in outpatient, Co Occurring- partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient behavioral health treatment programs. I am trained in a variety of treatment modalities, including CBT, DBT, ACT, trauma, grief, and loss etc. For the past 20 years, i’ve worked primarily with active duty military service members in a Co Occurring partial hospitalization program, inpatient psychiatric care, intensive outpatient therapy programs providing individual and group therapy. I also provided treatment to female active duty service members who suffered trauma, especially military sexual trauma, sexual harassment, and discrimination.

I work very well with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, work related stress, life transition issues impacting work and personal life. My ideal clients are open, willing and motivated to changes, to gain new knowledge and perspectives, to learn and practice healthy coping skills and tools to reduce or reframe negative thinking, to challenge unhealthy core beliefs, and to build supportive resources to improve mood and overall daily functioning. I also specialized in working with active duty service members and veterans who are experiencing a variety of mental health issues and life stressors related to balancing the demands of active duty service and or transitioning out of the military. Do you find it difficult to set boundaries, to maintain balance or to speak up for what you want? Do you have low self-esteem and lack of confidence? I am available to help you find your healthy voice, to speak up for what you want, to help you establish healthy boundaries, to learn healthy coping skills to help reduce stress, anxiety, depression symptoms, to improve interpersonal relationship, to build self esteem and confidence and your overall good mental health and wellbeing. I can help you set and achieve realistic therapy goals that can help you improve your mood, energy level, relationships and overall motivation. Remember: Stress is the one constant in our lives! Everyone is dealing with stress and some stress is normal. Some stress can even be good for us.However, excessive stress can be harmful to mind and body and talk therapy can help you learn healthy effective ways to cope and manage stress, to build healthy relationships, with others, to improve healthy self care and compassion for self and others and to improve your daily functioning and quality of life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

For the past 20 years, I have effectively used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies and techniques to help adult clients learn healthy coping and problem solving skills and tools to improve anxiety, depression and sleep issues by helping clients change negative unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors, creating healthy boundaries, improving self-esteem and self care skills which helps to improve self awareness, relationships and overall functioning at work and home.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have utilized ACT tools and techniques for the past 15 years to help adult clients manage a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, lack of confidence etc by helping clients learn healthy coping skills healthy ways to reframe and manage their distress by understanding and accepting their emotions and challenges and learning to develop self acceptance, self compassion and healthy self care to improve overall daily functioning.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

For the past 10 years, I have effectively used Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help individuals who are suffering, anxiety, and depression to understand the relationship between their emotions and behaviors and the impact on their relationships, self-care, and daily functioning. DBT can help individuals identify effective skills and healthy alternative solutions to manage distress, to soothe intense negative emotions, and improve relationships. DBT is effective in helping individuals break the cycles of ineffective thinking and behaviors and improve the management of the ups and downs of daily life. Clients learn to be mindful and to be in the moment which can also help to improve their focus , concentration, self esteem and confidence and self-care. DBT is evidence based and a proven effective therapy.
