Hi there, I'm Colleen! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), as well as a Medication, Assisted Treatment Specialist (MATS) in the State of Georgia. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and relocated to the Metro Atlanta Area in 2012. I have 23 years of experience in the realm of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. I am recognized for being an experienced, empathetic, down-to-earth, and kind mental health professional. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, addiction issues, relationship issues, and parenting concerns. I also helped many people who have experienced emotional abuse.
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to have a conversation about how things have been recently and what brought you to therapy. During this time, it allows us to build a connection and for me to have a better understanding and sense of where to go from there. Each person is different and has different goals, so I listen to what the individual needs instead of assuming their needs before moving forward.
My counseling style is sincere and collaborative. I believe in treating everyone with respect, compassion, and kindness. I will tailor our sessions and treatment plan to meet your individual needs and meet you where you are. I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. It started as a child when I would volunteer at school or church and with family and friends. I have always been there for individuals during the darkest times of their lives. I enjoy seeing individuals become the best versions of themselves.
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for middle-aged adults and couples who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and relationship issues. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and effective communication struggles. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
I am specifically trained in addiction and have worked with clients in all stages of life. My clinical experience includes the use of CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and other evidence-based practices in the treatment of clients.
