New to Grow
Clients find that I have a warm approach to support the therapeutic process. I utilize a variety of modalities and treatment techniques to find what works best for each client. Together, we can work to develop new patterns, implement coping skills and overcome the obstacles that may be holding you back. My experience in the mental health field began over 10 years ago in public and non-profit sectors. I have experience working with children and adults. I am happy to utilize a faith-based approach for any clients who wish to incorporate their Christian faith in counseling.
Before our first session, I will offer a quick consultation call. During this time, I will get a better idea of what your goals are and what you hope to get out of your sessions (and valuable time)! You can get a good idea of my style and personality and ask questions too. Then we will have an intake session to go more in depth. You can expect to discuss the presenting problem, history, and how it's impacting your life. We will review information such as sleep quality, diet, medications, alcohol and substance use. I like to learn about important people in your life and significant events. Towards the end of the intake I will be able to give you my individualized approach to meet your specific needs and develop therapeutic goals.
My approach emphasizes a warm approach to allow clients to be themselves. In sessions, there is no judgement. My style in sessions is conversational and personable. When needed, I will gently confront. If the space allows, I like to use humor at appropriate times. My strengths are recognizing we are all different and I will not make a recommendation that doesn't "fit" just because.
Clients with a desire to change and develop a new mindset are the foundation for reaching therapy goals. They might think "I don't even know where to start" and that's ok! When people are genuine about their strengths and shortcomings, will see progress. I like working with people who are honest and reflective about the therapeutic process too. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor where I am working alongside each client. We can take the pace of each person's comfort level.
