New to Grow
I have a warm approach and strive to establish a strong therapeutic alliance. I utilize a variety of modalities and treatment techniques to find what works best for each client. Together, we can work to develop new patterns, implement coping skills and overcome the obstacles that may be holding you back. My experience in mental health incudes roles in public and non-profit sectors and I have experience working with children and adults. I am happy to utilize a faith-based approach for any clients who wish to incorporate their Christian faith in counseling.
Before our first session, I will offer a consultation call. During this 10-15 minute call, I will get a better idea of what your goals are and what you hope to get out of your sessions (and valuable time)! You can get a good idea of my style and personality and ask questions too. Then, if you're comfortable, we will schedule an intake session. You can expect to discuss the presenting problem, history, and how it's impacting your life. This is also a good opportunity to talk about important events in your life too. Towards the end of the intake I will be able to give you my individualized approach to meet your specific needs and develop therapeutic goals.
My warm and welcoming approach allows clients to be themselves. There is no judgement! My style in sessions is conversational and personable. When needed, I will gently confront. If the space allows, we can use humor at appropriate times. My strengths are recognizing we are all different and I will not make a recommendation that doesn't "fit" just because it's worked for someone else in the past. I also take an educational approach to explain and equip you with tools and the rational behind it.
Clients with a desire to change and develop a new mindset are the foundation for reaching therapy goals. They might think "I don't even know where to start" and that's ok! When people are genuine about their strengths and shortcomings, will see progress. I like working with people who are honest and reflective about the therapeutic process too. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor where I am working alongside each client. We can take the pace of each person's comfort level.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an effective method for various mental health conditions such as anxiety, ADHD and trauma. In practice, clients benefit from cognitive restructuring when negative thoughts are persistent. Behavior activation is beneficial for treating depression. In session, we may practice strategies based on real life situations.
Christian Counseling
Incorporating a Christian perspective in counseling is beneficial to treat the whole person. I have experience working with people to address decision-making, managing stress and anxiety, discovering peace, combatting depression and more. I incorporate evidence-based practices with faith-based components to build upon your spiritual life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT is skills-based and people like the practical steps that are embedded. I have experience using DBT to help people address distress tolerance, emotional regulation and mindfulness.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
SFBT is useful for clients who are short on time and highly motivated to build upon strengths. This method is effective for people who are self-aware and insightful!
