As an experienced LCSW with 16 years in the mental health field, I aim to empower individuals believe in themselves again. I work with clients through a solution-focused and CBT approach to identify and develop the skills needed to resolve their unique challenges and situations. I help clients to embrace their truth and remind them that it is "Ok not to be perfect!". I specialize in helping people heal from trauma and learn how to love/realize themselves, which entails cultivating healthier relationships, less anxiety and more purpose in their life’s journey. My goal is to help you live life from a place of whole-hearted connection to your world. I am a LCSW (licensed clinical social worker), a Veteran, an adoptive mother, a professor, a daughter, a sister, a community activist, LGBTQIA+ Activist, a nurturer, an empath and and advocate for the voiceless. I am also a survivor of many autrocities that this world has had to offer - but I survived and proudly help others climb out of the mental muck and mire that I used to call home.
During the first session the client can expect that I will ask a number of questions about their biopsychosocial background, in order to understand their presenting situation and why they are seeking counseling at this particular time. We will start to collaborated to identify goals to go towards your desired outcomes.
I have the ability to connect with people from all walks of life, creating a comfortable, non-judgemental space for clients to receive the help that they need. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to provide compassion and understanding. I want you to know that you are not alone, I am here to help, and (if you feel we are a good fit) we can get through this together! I understand that participating in therapy is a HUGE step. It takes courage and strength to get to this point. Life can be TOUGH! I want every person reading this to know that seeking a therapist is a serious and vulnerable thing - if you don't fit well with a therapist - don't give up! Sharing your bare thoughts is worth seeking the right fit for you because mental health is just as important as seeking a good fit for any medical needs. Don't give up!

When this method is appropriated, the focus is on how thoughts, feelings, and behavior are integrated in a person’s life. Techniques utilized - such as exposure, social skills training, cognitive restructuring, problem-solving training, journaling, and relaxation training.
I consider the complex impact of trauma on an individual's well-being and how it shapes a person's ability to cope. Awareness of trauma is considered/integrated into every aspect of treatment while making safety a priority for each client.
More emphasis is placed on the individual as a survivor instead of as a victim as they are guided in retelling of their personal history of traumas, stressors, and pain. We will work together to use your assets and abilities to instill a sense of purpose and happiness. There will be a big focus on elevating how you perceive yourself, to assist in ensuring you have the best tools to deal with life's challenges.
This short-term goal-focused approach is focused on helping individuals construct solutions to their problems. There is focus on learning and applying problem solving strategies and SMART goal setting.
