Hello! My name is Shera. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR). I have a background in anthropology and studio art, and am passionate about merging my interests into a positive and creative therapeutic practice. I have professional clinical experience working with children, families, and adults in a variety of settings, including residential and outpatient. I have worked extensively with those struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and behavioral issues. I also enjoy working with those on a path of self-discovery. I utilize art making within my therapeutic practice to engage my clients in creative ways in order to explore, process, and learn. I am excited to continue working with individuals to help you live your life to your greatest potentials.
Our first session will be an intake appointment. This is the time where we go over consent, confidentiality, and information gathering. The session is unusual in the sense that I am asking about history, symptoms, goals, and more. In the first session I will take notes, though normally this is not the case. There is also plenty of time provided for you to ask questions to me as well. After the intake session, normal weekly sessions are much more fluid in terms of conversation and interventions.
I utilize art therapy methods. This means we will have creative methods mixed in with talk therapy. I may ask you to draw, paint, or collage about certain topics to help you process what is going on in a different way. It is important that we go at a pace that is comfortable with where you are at. When you are ready to be gently nudged, I will help you challenge yourself to do so as well. We will work as a team to learn what works best for you!
I am an extremely creative and flexible person. I am great at going with the flow and changing my plan if needed for a session. I specialize in art therapy, and therefore am great at integrating different visual and hands on methods during therapy. I love working with all ages, including young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, or figuring out who they want to be in life. Transitional periods can be very difficult, and gaining support during this time can be and amazing help!
I work with children and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, life-transitions, self-esteem, and more!
