Jennifer Kottler
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience treating individuals across the lifespan with a variety of mental health conditions. My approach is patient-centered and collaborative, focusing on creating a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable discussing their concerns.
My greatest strengths as a provider include my clinical experience, collaborative approach, and strong background in addiction and mental health treatment.
I combine medication management with education and practical strategies to help individuals better understand their mental health and work toward meaningful, lasting improvement.
First session
Before your scheduled intake appointment, I like to complete a brief phone call to discuss your treatment needs and determine whether I am the appropriate provider for you. During this call, we will review your concerns, discuss what you are looking for in treatment, and ensure that my services are the right fit for your needs. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the process and what to expect moving forward. I typically make this call at least 24 hours before your appointment. However, if you schedule your intake within 24 hours of the appointment time, I may not be able to complete the phone call before your visit. During our first full session, which typically lasts about one hour, we will focus on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to treatment. I will ask questions about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, medications, and any stressors or concerns that may be affecting your well-being. This helps me develop a clear understanding of your needs so we can create the most appropriate treatment plan. We will also discuss your goals for treatment and what you hope to gain from care. If appropriate, we may review medication options, including how they work, potential benefits and risks, and what you can expect throughout treatment. I also provide education about symptoms and treatment approaches so you can feel informed and actively involved in your care. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive, and judgment-free environment where you feel heard and respected. By the end of the appointment, we will work together to outline a treatment plan and next steps that align with your needs and goals.
Strengths
My greatest strengths as a provider include my clinical experience, collaborative approach, and strong background in mental health treatment and addiction. I have three years of experience practicing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, in addition to three years of prior experience working in detoxification and addiction treatment settings. This background has given me valuable insight into the complexities of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, allowing me to provide thoughtful and individualized care. I focus on creating a supportive, judgment-free environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their concerns. My approach emphasizes active listening, patient education, and shared decision-making so that individuals feel informed and involved in their treatment. I prioritize evidence-based medication management while helping patients better understand their symptoms, treatment options, and practical strategies for improving their mental health. My goal is to provide compassionate, thorough care that supports long-term stability and overall well-being. I work with patients to develop realistic treatment plans that address their immediate concerns while also supporting sustainable progress over time.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals seeking support for concerns such as anxiety, depression, addiction, mood disorders. I work well with clients who are open to learning about their mental health and collaborating on a treatment plan that may include medication management and practical coping strategies. My goal is to help clients better understand their symptoms, build effective tools for managing them, and improve their overall quality of life.
Treatment methods
Psychoeducation
I incorporate psychoeducation into my practice as a core component of treatment, helping patients better understand their diagnoses, symptoms, and the rationale behind their treatment plans. I routinely provide education about psychiatric conditions, medication benefits and risks, expected outcomes, and strategies for managing symptoms in daily life. My goal is to empower patients with knowledge so they can make informed decisions, actively participate in their care, and develop practical skills to support long-term mental health and stability.
