New to Grow
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor. That means I supervise Master level counselors for 2 years so that they can meet the requirements for licensing. I have been licensed for 24 years and have worked with children and adults in Community Mental Health settings, parenting programs, Child Protective Services and drug education. I use person-centered, behavior therapy, thought changing, unconditional positive regard, solution-focused and reality therapy to name a few. I have worked with ADHD, OCD, grief issues, trauma and abuse, and mental illness.
In our first session, we will get to know each other. You can tell me about the things that are bothering you and together we will develop a plan to address these issues.
I have been licensed for 25 years and worked in the mental health field as an advocate and educator since 1988. I use a variety of techniques to help my clients-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy to identify your problems, set goals and develop objectives.
Many people are hesitant to seek counseling. I know that opening up to someone you don't know can be a scary experience. My approach is non-judgmental and supportive. Together, we will move toward risking changes to improve your life.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Clients may come into treatment with preconceived ideas about themselves and how they should relate to others. I endeavor to help them understand that they can change these ideas.
Family Therapy
I work with the family as a whole unit to identify what role each family member takes. Then I share my observations with the family and invite their feedback. The goal is for each family member to see how they are perceived by the others and how they can modify their perceptions and behaviors.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Talking through problems and helping the client to take responsibility on their own in dealing with the problem.
Adlerian
Helping the client to develop life goals and working out an action plan to identify and make the changes needed to accomplish these goals. The therapist encourages the client through each phase of goal development, initiation of steps to achieve the goal and resolution.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to help the client focus on the positive aspects and experiences in his life. This is designed to help an individual appreciate his life experiences and draw away from the negative side.
