Greetings! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working in private practice. I graduated from the University of Houston and have over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field in both clinical and management areas. I work with clients who frequently experience anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues related to early trauma. If you are willing to embrace the therapeutic process, I believe that together we can move toward healing in these areas of your life!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After completing brief introductions, we will begin to discuss your challenges and what has brought you to therapy. I will continue the session by completing an initial assessment which will help me better understand the issues. We will then collaborate and agree upon a workable treatment plan. Additionally, I may provide handouts with information and exercises for home use.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have many years of experience in working with clients ranging from young to older adults. I am a very good listener and enjoy interacting with my clients. I am interested in helping clients reduce stress and live their best lives. Additionally, as a lifelong learner, I strive to stay current with related therapy matters.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have used the ACT model with clients for the past few years. Clients have been able to explore limiting thoughts about self and others, and examine unhealthy behavioral patterns. We will also explore your core values and use this knowledge to help you address such issues as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and procrastination.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been a staple application in my therapeutic practice for many years. I have used this treatment modality for over 15 years to help clients address the challenges of depression, anxiety, anger , low self-esteem, ADHD and relationship issues. We will explore the nature of our cognitions, and how they influence our feelings and behaviors. In therapy sessions we will also identify and manage cognitive distortions that lead to distress and dysfunctional reactions,

Faith based therapy

The therapeutic alliance is key to any counseling relationship regardless of the modality. I believe that spirituality can be an important factor in healing emotional distress. Clients need to feel safe to explore their spiritual views as they relate to mental health issues. Over the years, I have worked with many clients who have strong faith-based views and values. I have been able to engage clients in evidence-based treatment, typically CBT related, while presenting therapeutic ideas that align with spiritual values.

Integrative

Using parts of multiple modalities can be effective in treating an array of mental health issues and concerns. I believe in being well versed in several treatment models and tailoring the treatment to the individual therapeutic needs of the client. Therefore, I may use interventions in the areas of Mindfulness, CBT, IFS (Internal Family Systems) DBT, Psychoeducation, Somatic, Trauma Informed Therapy and Schema Therapy. All of these interventions are evidence based and are associated with positive outcomes for clients dealing with trauma and challenging mental health issues.
