I am a bilingual  (Spanish/English) therapist and licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina. I love working with people from diverse backgrounds, and for that reason, I returned to graduate school after retiring as a teacher and school administrator. I have worked with teens in area schools and also with adult clients in the Latino community. I am committed to providing you with support, compassion, and a safe space to be seen and heard.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is totally about getting to know each other. I will provide a safe space for you to share your immediate concerns and begin to feel seen, heard, and secure. I want to hear YOUR story. You are unique and special. The most important aspect for me is that you feel free to be you ! My goal is to walk by your side.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I've lived a long life already. I recognize that each human being has special gifts and qualities. I believe that every person has the ability to use his/her strengths to create a life they want to live. I am here for you -- not to judge, only to show you the warmth and compassion you deserve. I speak Spanish fairly fluently and we can have sessions in English, Spanish, or Spanglish. I also like to laugh, so hopefully we can also have some fun.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Life is full of disappointments and challenges. The way we interact with our thoughts and feelings can influence how we function. ACT helps us identify values and work toward effective behaviors that enhance our lives and help us reach our goals.

EMDR

Our brain wants to heal. Sometimes we don't have the words, but our bodies hold onto beliefs that may not be productive. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a modality that allows us to stimulate both sides of our brains, activating the brain’s ability to resolve these concerns. We can actually feel better, not just "think" we are.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

It is important that each person is heard, seen, and valued for who he/she is. We all come from different cultures and circumstances. Recognizing our differences and honoring those differences is important for increased understanding. I approach each client as special and unique. I am curious to learn as much about YOU as possible in order to form trust and rapport.

Eclectic

No one modality works for everybody or every situation. I think it's important to recognize each person's individual needs and concerns, applying interventions that are appropriate for the situation.
