LCPC, 5 years of experience
Hi, I’m Marianne Ogbonnaya. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. I have been practicing for over 4 years. I specialize in self-esteem issues and will work with you to increase your confidence and sense of well-being. I work with a variety of individuals and provide culturally affirming counselling to BIPOC, with a focus on first-generation and immigrants
In our first session we will get to know each other to make sure it is a good fit. We will talk about what brought you into counseling. We will delve into identifying what goals and challenges you are facing in your day to day life. Each session we will focus on utilizing your strengths and building skills to implement.
My experiences as a counselor are very diverse. Self esteem and racial identity are my main focuses. I support individuals to be empowered to truly enthusiastically and unapologetically be themselves. I am a sex-positive, LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, and kink-friendly therapist.
I love working with individuals ages 18 and up. They are looking for ways to be their true authentic selves. They are willing to endure difficult questions and introspection.

I've had great sessions with Marianne. She is a great listener and values understanding my thoughts and emotions and goes with me to explore emotions, their origins and potential solutions. I really appreciate her recall on details from previous sessions. Marianne is great at validating my emotions while challenging their origins. I truly feel like a session with Marianne can start very heavy/scary and end feeling lighter with guidance on what actions I can take.
I have been using ACT in my practice for 4 years. Clients learn to stop avoiding, their inner emotions and accept their emotions and feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. Clients use these techniques to learn how to accept situations or emotions and choose an action to commit to.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for 4 years. Clients utilize the techniques that help them challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. CBT will help us identify patterns of thought that lead to behaviors and allow us to formulate a plan for change.
Clients used mindful techniques to decrease anxiety and depression. The techniques from this are meditations, breathing exercises, and grounding.
