y name is Ian Michael Reeder. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, at Ellie Mental Health and have been practicing for over 3 years. As a therapist I seek to help those who are struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, relationships, and other challenges that present in life. It is my belief that by equipping people with the tools they need and by respecting their autonomy, they will overcome the challenges they face. I hope for the opportunity to assist you in your journey through recovery. I provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence based treatment, to help those struggling through empowerment, modifying behaviors, developing insight, and teaching problem solving. I am also certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, a evidence based treatment, focused on treating PTSD in civilian and veteran populations. I find it important to note, therapy is not about being or becoming "normal". It is about finding how to be our unique selves, in a society full of unique people. I hope for the opportunity to join you on this journey of self-exploration and recovery.
When meeting for the first session, the focus is to get to know one another. I also focus on reviewing informed consent, so that you know what is confidential and the limits of the confidentiality. Additionally, I will focus on what counseling is and what it is not. As part of this I also inquire about your history with counseling, so that we can identify what has worked and what has not worked for you in the past. This is done to build trust and to establish a pattern of collaboration, while working together on your journey through recovery.
My greatest strengths as a provider are the structure I provide through the sessions, as well as the emphasis on addressing client needs.
I typically focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I use other modalities eclectically, within my application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, working with individuals and couples. This approach focuses on what thoughts and behaviors impact mood. Once identified, we work together to modify unhelpful thoughts or learn behaviors that can assist in managing symptoms.
I have provided CBT oriented therapy, due to the support in the literature, for outcomes in practice. Through identifying unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, and working collaboratively to change them, emotions that are affecting a clients quality of life, can be changed.
Using CT principles, Cognitive Processing Therapy is a treatment protocol, focused on treating PTSD. Through exploring stuck points and challenging the stuck points, the relationship to the past trauma is changed.
