Samantha Miller
Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 6 years of professional work experience in a variety of settings (home based program servicing children, adolescents & families, hospital & hospice). My education is as follows, a Bachelor in Human Development & Family Studies and a Master’s in Social Work, both obtained from the University of Connecticut. I strive to offer a safe, warm, nonjudgmental space for clients to express themselves and feel heard while discussing life's difficulties.
First session
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming space where the focus is on getting to know you, what's brought you to therapy and understanding your goals. There is no pressure to share everything all at once, we go at your pace and what you are comfortable with disclosing. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions related to my therapeutic style/experience as it's important you feel this is a good fit. I will also go over confidentiality, how your information is protected and when it might need to be shared (e.g., risk of harm to self/others).
Strengths
My greatest strength as a provider is being an active listener, supportive and help my clients reach goals that effectively serve their identity and environment.
Ideal clients
Given my experience, I am best positioned to serve children & adolescents struggling with anxiety, difficulty focusing, challenges in school (peer related or behavioral), negative self-talk and difficulty regulating emotions appropriately. I focus on promoting growth and resilience in a variety of areas (emotional regulation, coping mechanisms, self-esteem, communication skills and cognitive reframing). I work from a strengths-based approach where I focus on a person utilizing their strengths to achieve their goals. I am also best positioned to serve older adults (65+) who are adapting to life changes and facing emotional impacts of declining health. As well as individuals that have taken on the role of a caregiver/are seeking emotional support while navigating end of life care with loved ones.
