New to Grow
My name is Michael Muldoon, LCSW, and I have been working in the field, primarily as a therapist in various mental health treatment settings, for 6 years. I have worked primarily with patients with mood disorders, such as Anxiety, Depression, and Bipolar disorder, but also have experience working with grief and loss, personality disorders, and ADHD. I use a variety of modalities or types of therapy, including CBT, DBT, ACT, SFBT, and more. I would be privileged to work with you to help overcome symptoms and stressors, to attain the life you want.
In our first session, I aim to gather information about your mental health history, what symptoms and stressors you experience recently, and what your goals are for treatment and for your life. I can also share aspects of my assessment and my impression of what structure or types of therapy would be most useful to you (combined with your preferences!). I want to also address any questions or concerns you may have, in the aim of clarifying expectations and ensuring we are a good fit for each other.
I have a humanistic and person-centered approach, in that I have been through challenges in life, including related to my mental health, and in this way believe I am able to understand and connect with clients. I can be formal and serious when the situation call for it, and I can also be more light-hearted in other settings. I aim to "meet the client where they're at" and am flexible to meet the needs of clients.
Young and middle-aged adults, with mood disorders, experiencing life transitions and other stressors, who are open to new ideas and making efforts to change. More specifically, I work with clients who have symptoms of depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, and ADHD. Whether you are trying to overcome your first episode of mental illness and return to a high-functioning lifestyle, or you have been struggling with mental illness for years and just want things to be easier, I believe I can help.
This approach is especially relevant for those struggling to cope with or adapt to life changes and things out of your control. We work together to cultivate an attitude of acceptance and also clarify your values to give your life more direction.
This approach helps us to notice patterns in your thinking, emotions, and behaviors, and then to make changes in these areas to become more rational and achieve your goals.
This modality, especially sections related to managing your emotions in stressful situations, is relevant to many clients. We would identify where your vulnerabilities or areas for growth are, and then equip the client with necessary skills.
