Do you feel that having a helping hand or simply an ear to listen may make things better? Have you noticed yourself withdrawing from others or experiencing more and more stress? Do you find yourself hoping that things will improve, but week to week things still aren't changing? I want to help. I collaborate with my clients to develop goals and plans to meet those goals by working to understand what motivates you and pushes you to grow and change. I have a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I enjoy getting to know the real you, and understanding more about what motivates and encourages you. I think it's important to follow and practice one's passions, and I always like to help encourage people to do what makes them truly happy. When we meet, we will talk about where you are at, where you want to be, and how we can work together to get you there. You deserve mental and emotional wellness just as much as anyone else - so if that sounds like what you need, please reach out to see if I am a good fit for you!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, we'll have a genuine conversation about what's bringing you to therapy right now. I want to understand not just what's happening, but how it's affecting you - the worry keeping you up at night, the patterns you've noticed, the things you've already tried that haven't quite worked. We'll talk about what you're hoping will be different and explore whether my approach feels like a good match for what you need. I'll explain how I work and answer your questions about therapy, insurance, or anything else on your mind. This session is as much about you getting a feel for whether we click as it is about gathering information. By the end, you should have a clearer sense of where we're headed together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I bring real experience working with the messy, complicated stuff - depression that makes everything feel impossible, anxiety that won't shut off, and substance use that's become more of a problem than you intended. I specialize in addiction and harm reduction, which means I meet you where you actually are, not where you think you "should" be. I also work with people struggling with anger that's damaging their relationships, communication patterns that keep causing conflict, and the underlying issues driving relational stress. Whether it's addiction, work stress, grief, or life transitions, I focus on the real problems affecting your daily life. What sets my approach apart is that I'm direct and collaborative - I'm not here to just nod sympathetically while you talk. We'll actively work together using evidence-based methods like CBT, motivational interviewing, DBT skills, and mindfulness practices to build actual tools you can use. I focus on understanding what drives your patterns and what realistic change looks like for your life, not some idealized version of recovery or wellness.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I connect well with people who are tired of just surviving and ready to actually address what's not working. Maybe you're exhausted from anxiety running the show, or you've realized your relationship with substances needs to change, or you're stuck in a fog of depression wondering when things will feel different. You might be skeptical that therapy will help, but you're willing to show up and try. You value honesty - both giving it and receiving it - and you're open to looking at your patterns even when it's uncomfortable. You don't need to have everything figured out or be "ready to change" - you just need to be willing to explore what's possible.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you identify and change the thought patterns and behaviors keeping you stuck. We'll look at how your thoughts influence your feelings and actions, then work on developing more balanced, realistic ways of thinking. This isn't about "positive thinking" - it's about catching distortions and unhelpful patterns that make things worse. CBT is particularly effective for anxiety and depression because it gives you concrete tools to challenge spiraling thoughts, face avoided situations gradually, and break cycles that reinforce your struggles.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I incorporate mindfulness practices to help you develop awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without getting swept away by them. Mindfulness helps you notice what's happening in the moment so you can respond intentionally rather than react automatically. It's especially useful for managing anxiety, cravings, anger, and stress because it creates space between the urge and the action. We'll practice techniques like grounding exercises, body scans, and breath work that you can use when you're overwhelmed. I focus on practical, accessible mindfulness tools that fit into real life. The goal is building your capacity to stay present with discomfort instead of avoiding or numbing it, which strengthens your ability to handle difficult situations.

I appreciated Sean's gentleness guiding me through my first session.

Sean made our introduction session extremely valuable for me. He laid out exactly what our time together would look like, asked me about my own goals and then helped me to develop a plan to start achieving those goals. This was a big step for me as I have no been in therapy for many years and my biggest fear was that I wouldn't mesh well with my next therapist or would feel judged or out of place but Sean made sure that I was welcomed and gave me the freedom to speak and start my journey right.
