Greetings! My name is Shauna Bethea and I am currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) based in North Carolina. I received my Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Webster University in 2011. I tailor my approach to each client's needs, creating individualized treatment plans while utilizing various approaches to therapy. Counseling can benefit anyone dealing with everyday challenges, stress, or personal growth. I strongly believe that seeking counseling is a sign of resourcefulness and self-care. It’s a positive step toward well-being!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first therapy session, you can expect a few key things: Getting Acquainted: The initial session is like an interview. Your therapist will ask questions about you, your coping mechanisms, and your symptoms. It’s an opportunity for both you and I to see if I would be a good fit. Exploring Your History: I will inquire about your background, experiences, and any relevant life events. This helps me to understand your context and tailor the treatment effectively. Treatment Goals: You’ll discuss your goals for therapy. What do you hope to achieve? Whether it’s managing anxiety, improving relationships, or personal growth, this conversation sets the stage for your therapeutic journey. Remember, it’s normal to feel emotionally drained after the first session, even if you didn’t expect it. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I am here to support you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I've been characterized as empathetic, understanding, and nonjudgmental. I pride myself in listening actively and creating a safe space for clients to express their feelings. I build trust and rapport by paying attention to my clients, asking clarifying questions and validating their experiences. Clear communication is crucial, and I enjoy explaining concepts, therapeutic techniques, and treatment plans in a way that my clients can understand. I maintain professional boundaries while being compassionate, gauging when to challenge clients and when to provide support.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) concentrates on recognizing and altering negative thought patterns and behaviors, aiming to enhance emotional well-being by modifying dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a therapeutic approach that typically consists in identifying goals and developing a plan to achieve those goals. We will work together to establish goals, identify strengths and solutions rather than fixating on problems.
