Welcome! I'm Joe Toste, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Florida and West Virginia. I have been in social work for over 25 years and am a former reserve law enforcement officer. I manage two high school mental health clinics as a Director of Behavioral Health, a doctoral student in clinical social work, and work in an exclusive private practice.
In our first session, we will get to know one another and discuss your expectations and what you want to get out of therapy. I will share my passion for mental health recovery and why I believe it's essential to have a therapist with real-world, lived experience. I enjoy using our first session to learn about you, your wants, needs, and goals while exploring how I can help in your journey toward wellness and balance.
Having worked in the field of social work for over 25 years, I bring to the table a vast amount of experience in working with clients who have been victims and survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault and suffered from chronic mental illness and eating disorders. In today's world, we all deserve self-care, which includes having a mental health professional with real-world experience who will treat you with the utmost respect and dignity. Being a Latinx male therapist, I have a unique, culturally sensitive position to help folks who might not otherwise seek out a mental health professional.
I love working with adults and adolescents who struggle with eating disorders, trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and depression. I am in a position to serve clients who are struggling with chronic mental health challenges and who are motivated toward recovery and wellness.
Mindful-based therapy is a technique that I use to target depression, negative thoughts, and behaviors, along with incorporating meditation, breathing exercises, and remaining in the present moment. Many of my clients have found this technique very useful in treating their depression, stress, and anxiety.
I use Positive Psychology to help clients build upon their strengths and resiliency. My goal in using Positive Psychology is to help clients find a deeper meaning in their lives, explore gratitude, and boost their self-esteem. I use Positive Psychology to help clients with eating disorders, trauma, and substance misuse.
I've been using Motivational Interviewing in helping clients who are ambivalent about their recovery from mental health challenges, eating disorders, or substance misuse. I have used this client-centered approach to motivate clients toward the world of recovery, one day at a time.
