I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Florida. I graduated with my Masters from Florida State University in 2019, but I have been working in the social work field for over 7 years. I have worked with young children all the way up to adults with dementia related illnesses and their caregivers. I love to help children and teenagers be able to tell their story, to get to know and love themselves, and to learn to advocate for themselves.
In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions, then discuss what challenges you are facing. What do you feel like is getting in the way of feeling happy and fulfilled? This will help us to identify specific goals for therapy and develop a plan to reach each goal.
I have a genuine warmth and empathy that I use to provide a safe, nurturing space where my clients can feel heard and validated. Having worked in the school setting, child welfare, and private practice, I have successfully developed a system to help my clients understand and manage overwhelming emotions and rebuild connections to family and friends.
I have spent many years working with youth and adults who have underwent significant trauma in their lives. All of my interactions with clients are done with the understanding that each person I meet could have been and may still be impacted by trauma. Making sure each client feels physically and emotionally safe when we meet is foundational to everything else that happens in the therapeutic relationship.
Mindfulness is simply being present in the moment, noticing our feelings without judgement. We live in a very fast paced world full of constant pressure to do more and be more. Being mindful of our own self and learning acceptance is a pathway for us to begin loving ourselves.
I like to use CBT to better understand ourselves. Recognizing how our thoughts are connected to our emotions and our actions helps us feel empowered to take an active role in our mental health.
Sometimes we feel that we have no control over our emotions, or maybe we find ourselves operating solely through logic, detached from our feelings. I have used DBT with youth and with adults alike to help them find the balance between these two extremes. Through DBT techniques, we can identify our feelings and learn to manage feelings of discomfort when we recognize and accept our that our feelings come and go.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Since each individual is different and unique, my therapeutic approach typically combines several different treatment methods to meet you where you are and provide a safe, nurturing, therapeutic space to grow and heal.
