I believe that everyone has the ability to overcome any adversity they face, they just need a little help or guidance along the way. It is my perspective on mental health is that everyone will get “stuck” in their own cycle of trying to help themselves in a way that was never going to work for them. I want to work with you on how to best overcome these challenges, so I’ll never tell you what to do or what choice works best but I will make sure we figure it out together.
In our first session together, we will get to know each other and focus at first on developing and understanding of why you are here. I wish to know all of my clients as best as I can, including their lights, dislikes, and everything in between. Once we have spent , a good 10 to 15 minute talking about you then we will dive into these specific challenges that you are facing. I will want to know the challenge that you face as much as you know it so we can both work together to develop a plan for solving that challenge. Once we feel that we understand the problem as best as possible then we move forward to possible plans for future sessions. I always believe that my clients are in charge of how much therapy they need so I always leave it up to them to determine how often they would like a frequency of sessions. From there, we will fully develop a plan for handling the challenge you have presented and proceed from there.
Having worked with young individuals, families, and couples since the beginning of my career, I have developed a great toolbox for helping my clients to understand the challenges that they face. We will examine the challenge as completely as possible, and from their work together to develop solutions to the challenges that you have presented. My goal is to instill these tools within you so that you may be able to face any of these challenges on your own in the future, whatever they may be.
SFBT is a foundation of my methodology for therapy as it allows my clients and I to focus on solutions to any problems they present. I utilize SFBT in conjunction with other therapy methods as a way to help clients build these solutions to the problems they present themselves.
A foundation for my therapy practice as a method to hear my client’s stories. Utilizing narrative therapy will help myself and the client to understand how they see the problems the face in therapy. Using narrative therapy we will work together to develop methods for the client to manage any problems they may face.
I reserve EMDR methods for my clients with more severe mental health challenges. It is an effective method for my clients dealing with trauma but it is not limited to just that. I have utilized this method to help clients understand the challenges they face and in conjunction with my others methods develop tools with my client to handle these challenges.
As part of my training and practice I have learned methods for family therapy since the beginning. I utilize my other methods mentioned previously in the context of families. When working with families I make sure that everyone has a chance to speak and no one goes unheard. We will all work together to develop solutions to any family challenges they face.
Another therapy method I have practiced since the beginning of my career. It’s my goal in couples therapy to remain neutral and objective while each member of the relationship has their voice heard. Utilizing narrative and SFBT we work together to understand the relationship and develop the best solutions possible for whatever challenges the couple may face.
