If you're looking for therapy services and you would like to work with a Christian provider, you've come to the right place! I'm a licensed clinical psychologist, and my goal is to provide you with biblically-informed, high-quality, evidence-based psychological services. That way you don’t have to make the compromise between quality and your Christian worldview. Check out my website for more information: www.drkajamcmaster.com

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

You'll book six sessions at a time with me. In sessions, we'll focus on solutions instead of problems. You'll set concrete goals, and we'll draw upon your existing strengths and resources to bring about that change you're wanting in your life. After about six sessions, many clients experience progress and relief. At that point you can decide to stop therapy, continue working another six sessions on the same goal, or choose a new goal to work on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a licensed psychologist trained at the two top institutions in the world for psychology and over a decade of training in evidence-based treatments, you can trust that you're getting high-quality care with me.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

SFBT is a goal-oriented therapy that, for many clients, produces positive results in just a few sessions. The research on SFBT also shows that SFBT works as well as other evidence-based treatments (like CBT) and always in fewer sessions. That means you, the client, get a therapy that works with less of a time and financial commitment than most other therapies require. Don't worry about the "Brief" -- it just means you won't be in treatment for one session longer than you really need. You can take as few or as many sessions as your issues require with no expectation that you'll be in treatment years and years.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I integrate CBT techniques into the Solution-Focused therapy. This is because CBT requires that the client do a lot of homework, and I have found that to be infeasible for many of my clients who are working or raising children (or both). But by integrating CBT techniques into the Solution-Focused therapy, we will take advantage of many of the good ideas that come from CBT without all that additional burden.

Jungian

Depending on the issues you are coming to therapy with, we may make use of some of the concepts in Carl Jung's work on personality. I integrate some personality assessment into therapy sessions with clients who want or need to develop their sense of self. This may be you if you find yourself asking questions like: What do I want? What exactly are my needs? How can I set better boundaries with others so I can get my needs met? What do I want to do in life? What are my strengths? What weaknesses do I have that I should be mindful of?

Faith based therapy

Client do not have to be Christians to do therapy with me nor do clients who self-identify as Christian have to make mention of their faith if they don't want to. But for clients who are looking for a distinctly Christian therapy, a Christian worldview will be assumed between us from the very first session. Scripture, prayer, hymns and songs are discussed and integrated as it makes sense for the client. Issues like how to discern God's voice, God's purpose or calling for your life and relationships, church-related hurt or trauma are just some of the topics that come up with these clients and will be welcome discussion in your therapy.
