Do you feel like you are the caretaker? The hero? The rescuer? Do you have to be the strong one? The one who everyone turns to, but has no one to turn to themselves? Do you witness the unimaginable and have to “carry on” to save the next life? You are not alone. I help clients learn how to live with their experiences, set and hold appropriate boundaries, build healthy relationships, gain stability, and learn skills to manage their emotions in a healthy way. I provide a safe and supportive place for those who feel they can’t talk about their experiences because no one else can understand. I am experienced in working with clients from all walks of life. I have worked with anxiety, depression, chronic job-related trauma, substance use, and adjustment and phase of life issues. I believe in integrative techniques to connect mind, body, and spirit and improve overall well-being. I also believe in working together to develop a plan based on skills you already possess to create lasting changes. How can we build on good habits you are already doing? How can we expand positive qualities you already show to others? Let's work together to build healthy habits that work for you!
The first session is known as an intake or assessment. During this session, we will ask for your complete mental and physical health history, current physical wellness symptoms, current physical wellness practices, substance use history, family health history, family substance use history, developmental history, family dynamics, current social dynamics, and reasons for seeking treatment at this time. We will also discuss your goals for your health, wellness, and other areas of life; as well as determine a preliminary treatment plan and course of action. This intake is important for us to determine if we are a good fit and if your therapist is able to provide the care you need. If you are seeking mental health nutrition care, you will be sent an additional questionnaire to explore your current nutrition and needs. The intake session is also an opportunity for you to make sure I am aligned with your goals, personality, and needs. You will have the chance to learn how our future sessions will go, my therapeutic treatment style, and what my professional recommendations are for your treatment course. If at the end of the intake session I determine that another provider is better suited for your unique needs, is certified in an area of treatment best clinically recommended for your needs, or may otherwise be a better fit, a referral will be made at that time to avoid delaying your care; and in the same regard, you will be empowered to make the decision to either proceed with me or request a rematch and the request will be processed promptly to respect your time and self-advocacy.
I help my clients focus on the patterns in their choices to find where they need to make changes, if they want to achieve their goals. I empower them to feel confident and capable in making their own decisions, changes, and achieve their goals from a nonbiased, nonjudgmental position as I acknowledge that it is their own life being impacted. I also have special training and experience working with first responders. It can be challenging to always be the strong one, and the fear of what those who rely on you everyday might think can make you feel weak opening up about “normal” experiences that everyone else in your career seem to handle “just fine”. Strength is knowing when to ask for help. You don’t have to fight your battles alone. We will still laugh during our sessions, we can make space for jokes, pop culture references, and of course I want to meet your pets. These things do not mean we will not be doing real work and have professional and ethical boundaries, they just mean that we sometimes need to learn and practice effective coping as we go!

I believe my client is the expert in their own lives and I start with just simply providing unconditional positive regard to hold space for them to share their perception of their situation and concerns.
We will work together to identify specific goals and create action steps to achieving them. We will also explore your core beliefs to better understand the connection between beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Often times we know the changes we want to make, but self-doubt can impact us. Sometimes we just need to start with knowing our worth and our abilities.
I practice motivational interviewing techniques along with mindfulness practices to meet my clients where they are at, assess their motivation for change and personal goals, and focusing on present concerns with intentional skill building.
As a Certified Mental Health Nutrition Specialist, I practice from a holistic perspective to include helping my clients with identifying overall wellness concerns including sleep, physical, and nutritional habits; and referring to primary care practitioners for lab testing and holistic services at client's request.
