Welcome, My name is Ariam Peña, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia and Virginia. I received my Master’s degree from Argosy University and have been practicing for over a decade. I help adults with the different challenges of life and pressures that often take the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and substance abuse. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
During our first session, you can expect us to spend the majority of the time talking about how you've been feeling recently, what brought you to therapy and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Every individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
Growing up in a multicultural home, respect and love were the first and most important values to be instilled in my life that I believe have molded who I have become as an adult and a professional counselor.

Eclectic
I believe that "one size does not fit all sizes". This is why I use an eclectic approach to therapy. There will be times where one therapeutic approach may benefit you more than another or sessions where multiple approaches will be utilized. Improving your quality of life is the priority and I feel the best way to reach that is by tailoring each session to meet your specific needs. During sessions, you can expect a collaborative approach where we work together to achieve your goals for therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This is a modality that I have used for years to address and treat anxiety and depression, just to name a few.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT is related to traditional therapy and CBT. It utilizes skills that the client already presents with and helps the client to stop avoiding and denying the realities of the challenges they are having.
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy is a method of working directly with the client's strengths.
Christian Counseling
While this is not the only type of counseling I provide at my practice, it is one of several modalities that I am able to utilize.
