I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with experience helping people navigate substance addiction and recovery as well as stressful life circumstances and transitions. I help individuals find a way for recovery to work for them. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Edwards University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I have additional training in EMDR, Radically Open DBT, and TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga).
In our first session together, we'll spend some time talking about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. We'll also talk about your history and the stories and events that have shaped your life. Our first session involves a mix of exploring the present, the past, and the future through goal setting. As this is our first session, we'll take it at a pace that you feel is most helpful.
I have experience working in both residential and intensive outpatient settings for dual diagnosis (substance use + mental health). I understand the intensity of residential treatment and the consistent hard work required in an intensive outpatient setting. I find fulfillment and gratitude through witnessing my clients’ journey to wellness, authenticity, and self-compassion. In session, I value honesty, curiosity, and humor and aim to create a nonjudgmental space where healing and exploration can take place.
Recovery can simultaneously be the most rewarding and demanding part of your life. It can leave you feeling exposed and raw at the end of the day even though your recovery has shown you are resilient. Recovery from alcohol and other substances involves daily hard work and at times can feel monotonous. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other life struggles just seem to add to an already daunting process. The fear of relapsing into old habits and behaviors can be all-consuming and can cloud your reasons for exploring sobriety in the first place. You deserve to be able to enjoy this new life that you worked hard to create. You deserve to find peace and ease in your recovery. As your life circumstances change, your recovery will change and grow. I support individuals in navigating their lives as a person in recovery. I respect all paths to recovery; whether you’re sober, in recovery, sober curious, lovin’ the 12 steps or not, we can work on a plan that gets you to your goals. As a yoga teacher and therapist, I recognize a direct connection between body + mind. I integrate the breath and encourage body awareness during sessions as a way to process emotions and stressors.
ACT helps us to practice acceptance of emotions and commit to moving through our lives in a value-driven way.
I am compassion focused in my approach, meaning that I help those that struggle with shame and self-criticism move toward a kinder and more mindful relationship with their inner experience.
At the core of my work is my awareness and knowledge of trauma and the lasting impacts it has on the mind and body. I use a trauma informed approach to guide my thoughts, words, and actions while in session with my clients.
