Welcome! I'm Emily, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) with a passion for integrative healing and mental health. My journey in the mental health field began in 2015, and I have been dedicated to general healthcare since 2011. I believe in a holistic approach to well-being; integrating mind-body-spirit care into your treatment plan. I truly enjoy helping clients see life in new and different ways. My favorite part of my job is witnessing your growth as a human on this crazy ride we call life! My formal education includes a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Biology, a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and postgraduate training in Mind-Body Medicine and Biofeedback.
During our first session, we will work collaboratively to develop a unique treatment plan for you. We will discuss your history, important events in your life, mental health history, and your goals and/or reasons for coming to therapy. We will decide on some main themes to address in our work together.
Clients often voice that they truly feel safe telling me anything. I can be safe space to share your most vulnerable thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and I will hold this space with grace and humility. Also, I work holistically to address body, mind, and spirit in every treatment plan and session. I honor your truest wisdom within yourself. I am not here to tell you what to do, but to help you find that answer within yourself. Frankly, I believe that many therapists/providers miss so much by not addressing your whole being: body, mind, and spirit.
I am passionate about working with individuals who are ready to make a shift in their life. I enjoy walking alongside you on this monumental journey of self reflection and wisdom, and I truly believe it to be one of the greatest honors to see your growth and evolution through the therapy process.
I utilize DBT to help clients improve distress tolerance and emotional regulation, and learn/implement mindfulness and healthy communication skills. I also use this modality to help clients clarify values and live more alignment with their life path. I find this to be a very important modality for many clients. It is evidence based, effective, and addresses vital areas of mental wellness.
I operate off a foundational approach of relational therapy. The relationship between therapist and client is a sacred therapeutic bond. This bond plays a vital role in the healing and growth in the therapy process. To be truly seen and heard is one of the most powerful feelings one can experience. This also applies to other relationships in our lives- who we surround ourselves with and what types of relationships we participate in deeply impact our sense of well being.
CBT can be a very useful tool for those who struggle with irrational or negative thinking which contributes to their distress. Using CBT, we can challenge thought patterns and start to create new and healthier narratives and thought patterns.
The mind-body connection is undeniable. I integrate and assign mind-body practices such as mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises, movement, etc into treatment plans and sessions as deemed appropriate and when clients are open to it. I aim to treat the whole being - body, mind, and spirit always.
I operate off a foundational approach of humanistic therapy. This basically means that I treat my clients just as they are-humans! I believe in the "goodness" and wisdom of everyone , and that you are the expert on your life. Through this lens, I see that you can evolve and make positive change in your life, and this is just what I aim to help you do!
