About me

About Me Hi, friend — I’m Shawn, a Licensed Professional Counselor who helps people heal from the inside out through trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, and motivational therapy. I believe therapy should feel like a steady hand and a safe porch — a place to rest, reflect, and rebuild. Whether you’re untangling the impact of trauma, struggling with anxiety, or just feeling disconnected from yourself, my goal is to help you rediscover peace, purpose, and confidence in your life. My Approach My work is guided by compassion, grounded in neuroscience, and built on practical tools for real change. I combine: Trauma Therapy – to help you process and release the weight of past experiences safely and gently. Mindfulness Practices – to reconnect body and mind, quiet racing thoughts, and bring calm awareness to the present moment. Motivational Therapy – to strengthen your sense of direction, boost confidence, and help you move from stuck to steady. Each session is tailored to your needs — a balance of reflection, insight, and action. Together, we’ll work to build resilience, restore hope, and create new patterns that align with the life you want to live.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

What You Can Expect Therapy with me is gentle but purposeful — we’ll laugh when it fits, pause when needed, and keep moving forward at your pace. My sessions blend evidence-based tools with mindfulness and reflection so you leave each time feeling a little lighter, more centered, and more capable of handling what’s ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

🌿 Greatest Strengths Clients often tell me my greatest strengths are my ability to truly listen and make them feel safe enough to be honest — sometimes for the first time in a long while. I bring a calm, grounded presence into the room and meet people where they are, without judgment or pressure. I blend warmth with wisdom, combining clinical skill with genuine human connection. Whether we’re working through trauma, managing anxiety, or rebuilding motivation, I help clients find practical tools that bring peace and progress between sessions — not just insight in the moment. My approach balances structure and compassion. You’ll get both the gentle encouragement that helps you open up and the steady accountability that helps you grow. My background in trauma therapy, mindfulness, and motivational work allows me to tailor each session to your needs — so healing feels personal, not prescriptive.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

🌾 Ideal Clients My ideal clients are individuals who have carried more than their fair share for too long — the ones who feel worn down by anxiety, exhaustion, or the quiet weight of old wounds that still echo in their daily lives. Many are caregivers, professionals, or women in transition who have spent years taking care of everyone else and are now realizing it’s time to tend to their own emotional well-being. I have a special heart for women entering perimenopause or menopause, navigating the mix of emotional, physical, and identity changes that come with this new season. These years can stir up feelings of loss, irritability, anxiety, or deep reflection about purpose and relationships. In therapy, we work together to untangle these emotions, make sense of what your body and mind are trying to tell you, and rebuild balance through mindfulness, self-compassion, and practical coping tools. I also work with: Adults processing trauma, grief, or relational wounds Highly empathetic people who feel “too much” or struggle to set boundaries Individuals rebuilding motivation after depression, loss, or major life change Professionals, parents, and caregivers seeking peace, balance, and self-care My clients often describe me as calm, genuine, and easy to talk to. Therapy with me isn’t about perfection or performance — it’s about understanding your story, honoring your body, and finding your rhythm again. If you’re longing for a space to breathe, reflect, and heal — where warmth meets wisdom and every part of you is welcome — we’ll likely be a great fit.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely used and effective approaches for treating anxiety, depression, and stress-related concerns. It’s based on the simple idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected — and by understanding and reshaping the way we think, we can change the way we feel and respond. In CBT, we work together to uncover the thought patterns that might be feeding worry, guilt, or self-doubt. You’ll learn practical tools to challenge negative thinking, replace it with balanced perspectives, and develop healthier coping skills that carry into everyday life. This approach is structured yet flexible — it meets you where you are, helps you track progress, and empowers you to become your own best advocate for emotional well-being. Over time, CBT helps you gain confidence in managing stress, setting boundaries, and responding to challenges with greater calm and clarity.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help clients understand and change the unhelpful thoughts that keep them stuck in the emotional pain of trauma. In CPT, we work together to identify patterns of thinking — often called “stuck points” — that developed as a result of trauma and continue to shape how you see yourself, others, and the world. Through guided reflection, journaling, and discussion, CPT helps you challenge those beliefs, process what happened safely, and begin to release guilt, shame, or fear tied to the event. The goal is not to erase the past, but to help you make sense of it — so you can move forward with greater clarity, self-compassion, and peace. CPT is generally delivered over 12 sessions and helps patients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. In so doing, the patient creates a new understanding and conceptualization of the traumatic event so that it reduces its ongoing negative effects on current life. This treatment is strongly recommended for the treatment of PTSD.
