As a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive care to adult patients of all ages. My educational background from Regis College of Nursing, coupled with my extensive experience working with families and other healthcare professionals, has equipped me with the skills necessary to develop individualized treatment plans that prioritize a holistic approach to mental health care. My goal is to not only alleviate symptoms, but to also enhance my patients' overall quality of life. I believe that effective communication is key in fostering a strong therapeutic relationship, which is why I prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment in which my patients feel heard and supported. By working collaboratively with my patients, we are able to brainstorm ideas, develop a personalized plan of care, and set achievable goals that align with their unique needs and preferences. It is my passion to empower individuals to take control of their mental health and well-being, and I am committed to providing compassionate and evidence-based care to each and every one of my patients. In my role as a PMHNP, I serve as an educator, providing patients with the necessary information and resources to make informed decisions about their mental health care. I also advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with mental health issues, working to reduce stigma and promote access to quality care. Additionally, I offer therapeutic support to help patients address and overcome their mental health challenges, using evidence-based interventions to promote healing and recovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Attending your first session with a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PNP) can feel overwhelming, but knowing what to expect can help ease some anxiety. Before the session, it's helpful to gather relevant medical records, a list of medications, and notes about your mental health history. During the session, I will introduce myself, discuss confidentiality, conduct a thorough assessment, and potentially provide a preliminary diagnosis. They will also outline potential treatment options, which may include medication, therapy, or lifestyle changes. It's important to ask questions, express any concerns, and clarify next steps. After the session, you may receive instructions for follow-up appointments and additional support resources. To make the most of your session, be honest, note your treatment goals, and list your symptoms. By being prepared and communicating openly, we can work together towards a successful treatment plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Being emphatic is a crucial aspect of my approach to therapy because it allows me to establish a strong connection with my clients. I prioritize creating a safe and comfortable environment for them to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. By actively listening and being non-judgmental, I aim to foster trust and open communication. One of the key ways I demonstrate my commitment to my clients is by being responsive and accessible. I provide my clients with my email address and assure them that they can reach out to me at any time. I make it a point to respond promptly, either in the moment or within 24 hours, so that my clients feel supported and valued. This level of responsiveness helps to create a sense of security and reassurance for my clients, knowing that they can rely on me for support when they need it. By being empathetic, non-judgmental, and responsive, I strive to create a therapeutic relationship that is built on trust, understanding, and support. My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to navigate their emotions and challenges with confidence, knowing that they have a dedicated ally in their corner.

My treatment methods

Integrative

Integrative therapy is a flexible, holistic approach that combines different therapeutic techniques and interventions to fit the unique needs of each client. Every patient is unique, so we will create a personalized assessment for each patient. I like to combine different therapy options, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and holistic care, incorporating lifestyle changes, stress management techniques, and self-care into the patient's treatment plan. It is very important for me to understand the individual's preferences, strengths, and goals. I encourage them to actively participate in their treatment process and decision-making. I also integrate pharmacology with other therapeutic interventions when necessary. Education and empowerment are key in my practice. I like to educate patients on how to integrate therapy and medication management and adjust to their needs. I’m also a big advocate for cultural sensitivity, respecting cultural beliefs and practices, and incorporating culturally appropriate interventions.
