Annalise Oatman
Hi, I'm Annalise! I'm a Pisces, writer, and facilitator of other peoples' natural healing processes. I'm a licensed clinical social worker with ten years of experience in the mental health field, starting with many years of immersion in attachment theory and working with traumatized children and youth. After starting my private practice in 2019, I decided to follow my passion and focus my work on adult women and people primarily identified with the feminine and to take a trauma-based approach to assisting creative women who are depressed when they are not expressed. As such, I decided to get trained in EMDR, the gold standard evidence-based approach for treating trauma. I've also deeply explored various forms of somatic work, including Somatic Archaeology (an approach created by Dr. Ruby Gibson) and I weave that into the way I apply EMDR.
I am a multi-trained licensed clinical social worker with a deep background in attachment trauma and training in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. I take a holistic, integrative approach, weaving in the wisdom of the unconscious through working with the body, dreams and creative expression.
I have also studied plant medicine ceremony and shamanic energy medicine deeply and experientially and my approach to therapy and healing is highly influenced by this. Last but not least, I am currently training in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy at the Integrative Psychiatry Institute!
First session
I always hope that new clients feel their heart has actually been seen, heard and gently tended to after our first session, or maybe even the beginnings of a sense of illumination or new perspective on the facts of their biography that they perhaps previously hadn't considered too deeply before.
Strengths
I am myself with every client because I take very seriously the research that indicates that it ultimately doesn't even matter what kind of therapy is being applied if there is no relationship. I believe the best way to build a real relationship in the therapy dynamic is to simply be myself and not put on airs. I'm frequently told I'm a quirky, warm and approachable person.
Ideal clients
I often work with women who are depressed when they are not expressed, or who have lost touch with their internal compass and natural instinct, feeling at a loss for what they truly desire (in relationships and career) and sometimes paralyzed by fear about how to begin reaching for what their heart and gut tells them is actually right for them.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients recover from specific incident adult traumas, and also from more complex, multi-layered developmental trauma.
Somatic
I am completing year two of a three-year Somatic Experiencing training program, and I use somatic experiencing and somatic therapy to help clients recover from specific incident adult traumas, and also from more complex, multi-layered developmental trauma.
