Debra Francis

LPC15 years of experience

I view therapy as a collaborative and restorative process—one that honors each client’s story, culture, and capacity for growth. Every person’s journey is unique, and my role is to walk alongside you as we make sense of your experiences, uncover strengths, and identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Therapy is not about fixing who you are, but rediscovering the parts of you that already know how to heal. I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and first responders who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, caregiver stress, and major life transitions. Clients describe my approach as warm, grounded, and collaborative—a balance of professional guidance and genuine human connection. Together, we work to restore balance, strengthen resilience, and create a renewed sense of purpose, clarity, and hope. My work integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Strength-Based, and other approaches to help clients manage stress, challenge cognitive distortions, and build practical coping tools. I also draw from Trauma-Informed and Family-Systems perspectives, recognizing the ways relationships, history, and identity shape our emotional lives. These methods allow us to move beyond symptom relief toward deeper, lasting change.

First session

Your first session is a chance to exhale—to pause and begin making sense of what has brought you here. During our time together, we’ll talk through what’s been happening in your life, what feels heavy or uncertain, and what you hope to gain from counseling. I view this initial meeting as the start of a collaborative process. We’ll explore the challenges you’re facing as well as the strengths and coping skills you already possess. I’ll gather background information to better understand your experiences, relationships, and the patterns that may be influencing your well-being. This helps us identify what’s working, what’s not, and what goals feel most meaningful to you. My aim is to create a calm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can share openly and move at your own pace. Together, we’ll begin outlining a path toward healing, growth, and renewed balance—one grounded in trust, compassion, and evidence-based strategies that support your long-term emotional health.

Strengths

My inspiration for becoming a counselor comes from a deeply personal place. When my son was diagnosed with a severe mental health condition, I found myself on the other side of the helping relationship—facing uncertainty, navigating complex systems, and learning firsthand how critical compassionate, knowledgeable support can be. Walking beside him through that journey transformed the way I view mental health, resilience, and the strength that emerges when people feel truly seen and understood. That experience reshaped not only my perspective as a parent, but also my professional purpose. It deepened my belief that healing and growth are possible when therapy offers both empathy and structure—where understanding is balanced with actionable strategies for change. Today, I bring that insight into my work with individuals, couples, and families, helping them navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions with courage, self-awareness, and practical tools for emotional well-being. I consider it a privilege to help others find meaning, balance, and renewed hope—because I have witnessed, both personally and professionally, the profound transformation that occurs when people are supported in reclaiming their strength and their story.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve individuals, couples, families, and first responders who are seeking meaningful change, emotional clarity, and practical tools for managing life’s challenges. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or the stress of caregiving and life transitions. They value a collaborative, insight-oriented approach and want to feel both understood and empowered. Healing begins with being understood. Drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Strength-Based, and other approaches, I help clients move from surviving to thriving. Inspired by my own journey supporting a loved one with mental illness, I offer compassionate, evidence-based care that fosters resilience, balance, and lasting emotional well-being.
