Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Beginning therapy is a meaningful step, and I want you to feel informed, prepared, and at ease as you enter your first session with me at The Heart Centered Journey. The initial session is designed to create a safe, welcoming space where you can begin to share your story, clarify your needs, and start building a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, respect, and collaboration. When you arrive for your first session, we will begin by reviewing a few important administrative and clinical details. This includes informed consent, confidentiality, and your rights as a client. I will explain how your information is protected, the limits of confidentiality, and how therapy works within a professional and ethical framework. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions about the process, policies, or expectations. My goal is to ensure that you feel fully informed and comfortable moving forward. From there, we will move into a conversation about what brings you to therapy. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel ready to disclose. Some clients come with a clear concern such as anxiety, stress, trauma, or relationship challenges. Others may feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or simply aware that something needs attention but are not sure how to articulate it yet. Wherever you are in your journey is exactly where we will begin. During this session, I will ask questions to better understand your experiences, history, and current concerns. This may include exploring your emotional, mental, relational, and, if relevant to you, spiritual background. We may discuss patterns you have noticed, significant life events, coping strategies you have used, and what has or has not been helpful in the past. This process is not an interrogation but a guided conversation that helps me gain a holistic understanding of who you are. You can expect the pace to be collaborative and respectful. I do not rush or pressure you to share beyond your comfort level. Therapy is most effective when it feels safe, and that safety is built over time. My role is to listen attentively, ask thoughtful questions, and reflect back what I hear in a way that helps bring clarity and insight.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths lie in my ability to integrate clinical expertise, spiritual insight, and compassionate presence in a way that supports holistic healing. I bring a strong foundation of knowledge as a clinician, educator, and ministry leader, allowing me to address complex emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs with depth and clarity. I am particularly skilled in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued. My ability to build rapport and establish trust allows clients to engage authentically in the therapeutic process. I also have a strength in translating complex clinical concepts into practical, accessible tools that clients can apply in their daily lives. Additionally, I am highly attuned to patterns, which enables me to help clients identify underlying beliefs, emotional responses, and behavioral cycles that may be impacting their functioning. I approach this work with both empathy and intentionality, balancing support with gentle challenge to promote growth and accountability. My integrative approach is another key strength. I effectively blend evidence-based modalities with trauma-informed care and, when appropriate, faith-based principles, allowing for a personalized and culturally responsive experience. This adaptability enables me to meet clients where they are while guiding them toward meaningful and sustainable change. Finally, I am committed to continuous growth, both professionally and personally. I remain reflective in my practice, open to learning, and grounded in a sense of purpose that centers healing, transformation, and empowerment for those I serve.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I regularly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a core, evidence-based approach in my practice to help clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I guide clients in identifying and reframing negative thinking patterns while building practical coping and behavioral skills to improve emotional regulation and functioning. I also integrate CBT with trauma-informed and spiritually grounded interventions when appropriate, supporting both psychological healing and holistic well-being.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an evidence-based approach to help clients develop psychological flexibility and engage more fully in values-driven living. I support clients in accepting difficult thoughts and emotions rather than avoiding them, while building mindfulness skills and clarifying personal values to guide intentional behavior. I also integrate ACT with trauma-informed and spiritually grounded interventions when appropriate, promoting resilience, meaning-making, and holistic well-being.

Christian Counseling

I incorporate Christian counseling as an integrative approach that aligns clinical practice with biblical principles and spiritual formation. I support clients in exploring their concerns through both psychological insight and faith-based perspectives, utilizing prayer, scripture, and spiritual disciplines when appropriate and desired by the client. This approach allows me to address emotional and behavioral challenges while fostering spiritual growth, meaning, and holistic healing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy as a compassionate, evidence-based approach that helps clients understand and relate to the different “parts” of themselves. I guide clients in identifying protective and wounded parts while fostering connection to their core Self, which promotes healing, balance, and internal harmony. I integrate IFS with trauma-informed and spiritually grounded interventions when appropriate, supporting deep emotional healing and holistic well-being.
