Hi! I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker based in Ohio. I received my master's degree from Walden University and my bachelor's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. I have been working in the field of social work for 30ish years. I help youth and young adults struggling with a variety of different issues like self-esteem, anxiety, independent living, family issues, problem sexual behaviors, juvenile delinquency and non-suicidal self-harm. An interesting thing about me is that I have worked with youth who were living as Vampires, no judgement, just interesting!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, honestly, we just talk. I learn about you, and you are able to learn about me and how we can work together. You are the expert of your life. I am here to help you navigate. We will create a plan for us to work through in follow up sessions. Therapy doesn't have to be forever, but a first session is a great start.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

With 30 years of experience, my greatest strengths as a therapist include deep empathy and the ability to create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients. I excel in building strong, trusting relationships and tailoring my approach to meet each client's unique needs. Additionally, my extensive knowledge of evidence-based therapies and continuous learning ensure that I provide effective, up-to-date support for all my clients.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients recognize and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors. Our sessions are a collaborative effort, where we explore thoughts and feelings, identify cognitive distortions, and work on developing healthier thinking habits. Techniques like journaling, role-playing, and practical exercises aid in this process. The goal is to equip you with tools you can use to manage your emotions and navigate life's challenges more effectively, fostering resilience and promoting mental well-being. It’s all about empowering you to become the best version of yourself.

Narrative

When I use Narrative Therapy with clients, I help them explore and reshape their personal stories to uncover strengths and resilience. We delve into your narratives to identify how certain stories shape your identity and influence your life. Through conversations, we challenge unhelpful narratives and work on creating new, more empowering stories that reflect your values and aspirations. Techniques such as externalization—where problems are viewed as separate from the person—help you see yourself in a new light. It's all about fostering a sense of self and encouraging you to become the author of your own life.

Forensic Psychology

In my practice, I use a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to treat youth with problem sexual behaviors, formally known as "juvenile sexual offenders". This involves a thorough initial assessment to understand each individual's background and the nature of their offense. I employ cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help them recognize and change harmful behaviors and thought patterns, while also teaching essential coping skills and emotional regulation. Family involvement is crucial, so I incorporate family therapy to improve communication and rebuild trust. Additionally, I emphasize education on healthy relationships and appropriate sexual behavior. By addressing the root causes of the behavior and providing ongoing support, I aim to help clients reintegrate into society and prevent relapse. Treating juvenile sexual offenders requires a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that addresses the unique needs and circumstances of each individual. This holistic approach aims to address the root causes of the behavior, support the juvenile's development, and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
