Janika Phillips
I believe that healing begins with honesty, self-awareness, and the courage to embrace change. My philosophy is simple: "In order to heal, you must be real." I strive to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to become the best versions of themselves. My ideal client is ready to explore their experiences, challenge unhealthy patterns, establish boundaries, and take meaningful steps toward emotional wellness. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply seeking a greater sense of purpose, I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal and thrive.
Both my professional training and personal life experiences have shaped my understanding of resilience, personal growth, and the importance of prioritizing emotional well-being.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I recognize that no two individuals have the same journey, so I tailor treatment to meet each client's unique needs, experiences, and goals. I believe in meeting people where they are while encouraging them to recognize their strengths and embrace their potential. Both my professional training and personal life experiences have shaped my understanding of resilience, personal growth, and the importance of prioritizing emotional well-being. I understand that healing is not always linear and that growth often requires difficult conversations, intentional choices, and self-compassion. My goal is not to tell you how to live your life, but to help you develop the confidence, tools, and insight to create a life that feels authentic, fulfilling, and emotionally healthy.
First session
Our first session is all about getting to know YOU! No pressure, no judgment, and definitely no expectation that you have everything figured out. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what challenges you're facing, and what you hope to gain from our time together. I want to learn about you beyond your struggles because you are so much more than what you're going through. We'll explore your strengths, experiences, and goals while beginning to build a plan that works for you. You can expect genuine conversation, compassion, a little humor when appropriate, and a safe space to simply be yourself. I may ask some tough questions, but I promise they come from a place of support and encouragement. My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about what's ahead. Remember, showing up is already a step in the right direction!
Strengths
What makes my approach different is that I bring my authentic self into the therapy room. I'm down-to-earth, compassionate, and not afraid to have the tough conversations that lead to real growth. I believe therapy should feel like a safe space where you can laugh, cry, be vulnerable, and most importantly, be yourself without fear of judgment. I'm not the therapist who will just nod and agree with everything you say. I'll celebrate your wins, challenge your thinking, hold you accountable, and help you recognize strengths you may have forgotten you possess. My approach combines clinical expertise, real-life experiences, a little humor, and a whole lot of compassion. I believe in meeting you where you are, but I won't let you forget where you're capable of going. My goal is simple: to help you heal, grow, protect your peace, and create a life you genuinely enjoy living.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is ready to make a change, even if they're not quite sure where to start. You may be feeling overwhelmed, struggling with anxiety, depression, past trauma, relationship challenges, or simply trying to figure out who you are outside of everyone else's expectations. You don't have to have it all together, and you certainly don't have to have all the answers. All I ask is that you show up willing to be honest with yourself and open to the process. I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to break unhealthy cycles, establish boundaries, rediscover their confidence, and learn to prioritize themselves without guilt. Whether you're starting your healing journey or picking up where you left off, I'm here to walk alongside you, celebrate your progress, and challenge you when needed. Remember, you don't have to be perfect to make progress. You just have to be willing to start.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their feelings about change, identify what matters most to them, and discover their own motivation for moving forward. Rather than telling you what to do, I'll help you work through uncertainty, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward your goals.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I believe we don't always have to focus on what's going wrong to figure out how to move forward, so I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients recognize their strengths, identify what's already working, and build practical solutions. Together, we'll set realistic goals, celebrate small victories, and focus on creating the changes you want to see in your life.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use TF-CBT to help clients safely process traumatic experiences, understand how trauma impacts their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop healthy coping strategies. My goal is to create a supportive environment where clients can work through difficult experiences, regain a sense of control, and recognize that their trauma does not define them.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
I use Cognitive Processing Therapy to help clients examine how traumatic experiences have shaped their beliefs about themselves, others, and the world around them. Together, we'll challenge unhelpful thought patterns, work through feelings of guilt or shame, and develop healthier perspectives that support healing and personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we'll identify negative thinking patterns, challenge beliefs that may be holding you back, and develop healthier ways to respond to life's challenges. My goal is to help you gain practical tools, build confidence, and take control of your emotional well-being because sometimes changing the way you think can change the way you experience life!
