I imagine you have been thinking about talking to a therapist for a while, and it can be hard to start. Maybe you want more for yourself and things keep getting in the way. The weight of sadness or loss feels heavier lately. Or that anxious, overwhelmed feeling is keeping you stuck in certain areas of your life. As a licensed therapist with 25 years of experience, I want to hear your story, and I am so glad you are here. I am also a parent, spouse, family member, friend and may have been through similar things myself! Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting concerns, or you just want desperately for something to change, let's work on this together. I fully believe we can all move from just coping to building capacity for more. In your work with me, you get to define your goals and how you want to proceed. What do you want your life to look and feel like 6 months or a year from now? What steps can be taken to get there? Let's be creative and get started.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Some clients need to brain dump everything from the start and others need to warm up to build trust. During our first meeting, you can share as much as you are comfortable as we get to know each other. I will share my experience, approach, and answer your questions. We will discuss what brings you to therapy at this time, and all the thing that you feel are impacting you. You are the expert on you; I can bring a new perspective and ideas. Each of our sessions will build based on what brings you to therapy and how you will know if you are making progress.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I do not believe that there is one "right" way to help people grow, but it all starts with a strong therapeutic relationship. That's why getting to know you and how you move through your day-to-day life is important for me to understand. I have found some people thrive with a more of a directive approach to learn new skills like what we practice in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Some benefit more in understanding the relationship between what we think, how we feel, and how it impacts our bodies. What make me different is my approach is always based on what you need, and we evaluate it as we go to determine if we need to shift our approach.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who is curious and willing to try new things. Venting can only get you so far and isn't therapy. Your goals for yourself do not have to be my goals for you but be willing to discuss potential outcomes and pitfalls of our own behavior. Learning about ourselves happens in and outside of therapy by putting ideas and skills into practice and reflecting on their impact.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Have you ever thought of something you wish you said or did days after a difficult moment? Learn practical ways to better tolerate distress, regulate our emotions, practice mindfulness to slow down the moment, and strengthen communication skills. Access that wise mind while in the moment to gain confidence that you can handle whatever is happening. We can accept ourselves and circumstances while still working on changing what we can.

Somatic

Often times we hold emotions deep in our physical body, and talking about it isn't always enough. We can learn and practice how to access and release our emotions, separate but in addition to, understanding the thoughts behind them.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

At times we have all felt judged, afraid of being our true selves, or unsure of who we are separate from the people around us. We are all worthy of being accepted for who we really are underneath the masks we wear for others. In therapy with me, you get to set the goals and define what you want your life to look like. You also have the answers inside of you to uncover what hurts and how to repair it. My role is to give you a safe space to get wherever you want to go.
