Hi, I'm Shae, a Black non-binary Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over six years of experience supporting individuals and families in their healing journeys. My work is rooted in affirming care, with a focus on serving LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC communities, neurodivergent individuals, and mothers and babies. I bring a trauma-informed, culturally responsive lens to therapy, blending modalities like CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and person-centered approaches to meet each client where they are. At the heart of my practice is the belief that healing happens in safe, authentic connection—and I’m honored to hold space for that process.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first few sessions, the focus is on building a foundation of trust and understanding. We’ll explore what brings you to therapy, talk through your history, and identify the goals you’d like to work toward. I’ll also ask questions to get a fuller picture of your experiences, supports, and challenges at a comfortable pace. These early sessions are less about “fixing” and more about connection. You can expect a space where you're not judged, where your identities are affirmed, and where we begin to co-create a therapeutic relationship grounded in safety, curiosity, and care.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, my greatest strengths lie in my ability to hold space with deep presence, cultural humility, and radical compassion. I bring a grounded, affirming energy to the therapy room that helps clients feel seen, heard, and safe to show up as their full selves. My lived experience as a Black, non-binary clinician allows me to offer nuanced, identity-affirming care—particularly for those navigating systems of oppression, intergenerational trauma, and identity exploration. Clinically, I excel at integrating evidence-based modalities like CBT, DBT, and mindfulness with a trauma-informed, person-centered approach. I’m especially skilled at working with clients who may not have felt safe or fully understood in other therapeutic spaces—whether they are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, or perinatal clients. My strength is in meeting people exactly where they are, while gently supporting growth, healing, and self-trust.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

The clients I’m best positioned to serve are those who are navigating the world with layered identities and complex experiences. I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ individuals, BIPOC communities, neurodivergent folks, and mothers (including new and expecting parents) who are seeking a space where they feel seen, affirmed, and supported in their full humanity. Many of my clients are healing from trauma, managing anxiety or depression, exploring their identities, or learning to regulate their nervous systems in a world that often doesn’t feel safe. Whether you're seeking to break cycles, cultivate self-compassion, deepen emotional resilience, or simply have a space to breathe and be, I’m here to walk alongside you. I hold space with care, curiosity, and cultural humility—centering your lived experience and honoring the wisdom you already carry.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients in identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. With six years of experience, I’ve used CBT tools particularly effectively with neurodivergent clients, LGBTQ+ individuals, and mothers navigating postpartum challenges. My approach integrates culturally responsive adaptations of CBT to ensure that interventions resonate with each client's lived experience, identity, and values.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

At the core of my work is a person-centered approach. I create a therapeutic space grounded in empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity, allowing clients to feel truly seen and heard. This modality supports my work with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent clients by affirming their autonomy and lived experiences. I believe healing happens in the presence of genuine connection, and I bring that ethos to every session.

Trauma Informed Care

My trauma-informed practice is rooted in a deep respect for the ways trauma impacts the body, mind, and relationships. I prioritize safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment in all therapeutic interactions. Working extensively with mothers and babies, as well as communities that have experienced systemic oppression, I approach trauma with sensitivity, patience, and an understanding of the sociocultural factors that shape it.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I incorporate mindfulness-based therapy to help clients increase awareness of the present moment and cultivate a compassionate relationship with their thoughts and feelings. I’ve found this especially helpful for clients managing anxiety, depression, and burnout. I often blend mindfulness practices with somatic awareness to support nervous system regulation, particularly for clients from marginalized backgrounds who are navigating chronic stress.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. My clients—especially neurodivergent individuals and those who have experienced complex trauma—benefit from DBT’s structured yet compassionate approach. I emphasize adaptability and cultural responsiveness in delivering DBT tools, ensuring they align with each client’s communication style and values.
