Deane Marie

LMFT20 years of experience

II am a licensed therapist with 20 years of clinical experience. My primary focus is disordered eating, and I practice from a Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective. I also have a background in religious studies, which allows me to work with clients of all faith traditions, and I offer spiritual counseling for those who want to include that in their care. My approach integrates IFS-informed parts work, EMDR, and cinema therapy. I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist and welcome clients of all identities.

First session

Our first session is a chance to get to know each other. I will ask about what brings you to therapy, some of your history, and what you hope to change. You are welcome to share at your own pace, and there is no pressure to tell me everything at once. You can also ask me any questions about how I work. By the end of the session, we will have a sense of your goals and a starting plan for our work together, and you can decide whether I am the right fit for you.

Strengths

I believe your session time belongs to you. I keep the focus on your experience and share information about myself only when I believe it will support your work or when you ask. I am open about myself when asked, but my priority is always creating space for you. Clients also benefit from my 20 years of experience and my ability to see a situation from many angles, which helps us find a way forward when you feel stuck.

Ideal clients

Many of my clients are struggling with body image and binge eating disorder. My practice is anti-diet and based in Health at Every Size. I work with many individuals whose relationship with food and their body intersects with other parts of their identity, such as transgender and gender-diverse clients navigating both eating concerns and gender-related body distress. My ideal client is ready to explore how these experiences connect and to build a more peaceful relationship with food and their body.

Treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I find mindfulness based therapy and meditation helpful with most issues. I use it to help client's focus in the moment and to learn to bring their attention to the present at any time.

Somatic

I do check-ins with the body and use tapping methods that can help people manage their mood, fears, and emotions.

EMDR

I am trained in EMDR and use this method to address historic and current trauma.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I think it is important to know what your values are and to align your actions with them.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to challenge toxic thoughts. I help my clients examine their thoughts and to change them if they aren't serving them.
