JaShunta Carson is a board-certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Carson’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, a Master’s of Science in Environmental Science and Rural Occupational Health from the University of Alabama, a second Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and finally a second Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Ms. Carson has served patients in both medicine and psychiatry. JaShunta has worked in various medical hospital settings including Trauma, Burns, ICU, Emergency Room, PACU, Stepdown, and Med Surg units all while studying to become a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. JaShunta wanted to be a well-rounded provider. Ms. Carson felt the only way to accomplish that is to become an expert in both medicine and psychiatry. JaShunta’s primary goal is to provide the best quality of care to as many patients as possible. She believes in practicing medicine from a holistic standpoint, in order to give her patients evidence-based care regardless of their diagnosis. Ms. Carson serves the entire life span seeing ages 6 and older. She has worked in every area of mental health serving, children, adolescents, adult, and geriatric populations. JaShunta’s expertise is centered around Substance abuse, Dissociative Disorders, Trauma/Military, Cognitive Disorders, ADHD, Bipolar, MDD, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective disorders, to name a few. Ms. Carson has also worked in various mental health care settings including inpatient, partial hospitalization, addiction medicine, and outpatient programs.
