Lourdes Ortiz

LMHC (she/her)4 years of experience

I’m a licensed mental health counselor who works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, and other challenges that can leave them feeling overwhelmed or stuck. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the understanding that our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and physical experiences are deeply connected. I draw from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, somatic, trauma-informed, and attachment-informed approaches, adapting therapy to each person’s needs and goals. I aim to provide a supportive space where clients can better understand themselves, develop practical tools, process difficult experiences, and create meaningful changes in their lives.

Strengths

I bring curiosity, warmth, and a thoughtful, integrative approach to each session. I listen carefully not only to the immediate concern, but also to the patterns, relationships, experiences, and circumstances that may be contributing to it. My background in both counseling and philosophy has taught me to ask meaningful questions while keeping our work grounded in practical change. I draw from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, somatic, trauma-informed, and attachment-informed approaches rather than relying on a single method. I also bring experience working across cultures and in both English and Spanish. My goal is to meet clients where they are, understand the whole person, and work collaboratively toward greater insight, resilience, and a more fulfilling life.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is an adult, young or old, who is facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, or substance use, and is ready to explore the deeper aspects of their life. They may feel stuck in unhelpful patterns, struggle with self-doubt, or question their purpose, but they are motivated to make meaningful changes, taking one step at a time, no matter how big or small. My ideal client is open to self-reflection and willing to try new ways to cope with stress, emotional pain, or uncertainty. They are motivated to improve themselves and their relationships, gain clarity about their goals, and explore more effective ways to achieve them. They also seek to build healthier ways of thinking and living. This person understands that change requires both insight and action, and they are willing to engage in the process. They are ready for self-examination and open to taking responsibility for their thoughts and actions. While the journey may not always be easy, they are willing to face themselves honestly, practice self-compassion, and take the next right step—whether big or small—as they move toward greater well-being and a more fulfilling life.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps to uncover unhelpful thoughts and deep rooted beliefs influencing how we feel and act. By identifying unhelpful thoughts and beliefs we can explore new perspectives, and make a difference in the way we feel and act.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) allows me to meeting you where you are in your journey. MI helps us explore your thoughts and feelings about change at your own pace, respecting where you're currently at while also gently guiding you forward. The goal is to increase your motivation to make meaningful changes, without pressure or judgment. Through open, supportive conversations, we’ll work together to try out new strategies and approaches, ensuring that the process feels comfortable and aligned with your own values and readiness to move forward.

Existential

With a background in Philosophy, I’m drawn to existential therapy, especially when clients are ready to explore deeper questions about meaning, values, and existence. This approach is particularly helpful when you're looking to reflect on what you truly value and how you create meaning in your life, relationships, and experiences. Existential therapy invites you to confront the big questions—like the nature of freedom, responsibility, and mortality—and helps you gain clarity on how to live authentically. It’s not just about solving problems, but about discovering what matters most to you and navigating life with greater purpose and intention. As we explore these aspects, the process often leads to clinically significant changes, such as improved self-awareness, relationships, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. It can also foster a greater sense of self-efficacy, agency, and emotional regulation, all contributing to enhanced well-being and resilience in facing life’s challenges.
