Lamisha Muquit
I’m a Bangladeshi immigrant woman and Clinical Psychologist who values authenticity, empathy, and culturally sensitive care. My personal and professional experiences have shaped the way I approach therapy — with curiosity, compassion, and an understanding that our identities, relationships, culture, and environments deeply influence how we experience the world. I recognize the complexity of balancing multiple cultural expectations while trying to adapt, grow, and remain connected to yourself. Because of this, I strive to create a therapeutic space where people feel genuinely seen, understood, and safe enough to show up as they are without fear of judgment. My approach is strengths-based, relational, and collaborative. I believe healing happens when people feel empowered to better understand themselves, reconnect with their resilience, and move toward meaningful change in ways that align with their values and lived experiences.
First session
Our first session would be a space for you to start showing up exactly as you are — without pressure to have everything figured out or explained perfectly. I know beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, uncomfortable, or even intimidating, so I try to approach the first session in a way that feels conversational, collaborative, and grounded in safety rather than feeling overly clinical or interrogative. We would spend time getting to know what brings you to therapy, what has been weighing on you, and what you hope to gain from this process. I’d also want to understand more about who you are beyond the struggles — your relationships, values, cultural background, support systems, strengths, and the experiences that have shaped you. Because I value culturally sensitive and person-centered care, I also recognize that identity, family dynamics, culture, religion/spirituality, migration experiences, and environment can play a major role in emotional well-being. We would move at a pace that feels comfortable for you while exploring the context behind your experiences rather than viewing challenges in isolation. My goal in the first session is not to “fix” everything immediately, but to begin building trust, understanding patterns together, and creating a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. I also believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative, so we would talk openly about your goals, what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past, and how we can tailor therapy to fit your needs rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all approach. Most importantly, I want clients to leave the first session feeling a little less alone with what they’re carrying and with a sense that they do not have to navigate everything by themselves.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a space where people feel genuinely seen, understood, and emotionally safe. I approach others with empathy, curiosity, and compassion while also recognizing the complexity of each person’s lived experiences, identity, and environment. I also value authenticity and collaboration in the therapeutic process. I strive to meet people where they are, build strong therapeutic relationships, and help clients recognize the resilience and strengths they already carry within themselves. My approach is grounded in empathy while also encouraging growth, insight, and meaningful change.
Ideal clients
I would like to work with clients who are motivated to better build insight and make change within their life. I would like to work with clients who have stability and no challenges with their basic needs where it creates an impact on deeper processing work. I am open to clients who have had therapy experiences in the past and who’s brand new to therapy.
Treatment methods
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
As a Bangladeshi immigrant woman, I know firsthand how much culture, family expectations, community values, and environment can shape the way we see ourselves and move through the world. I also understand how difficult it can be to balance different cultural identities while trying to adapt, belong, and stay connected to your own values and sense of self. Because of both my personal and professional experiences, I try to approach therapy with cultural humility, openness, and genuine curiosity about each person’s story. I recognize that culture influences far more than language or traditions — it can impact emotional expression, relationships, boundaries, views on mental health, experiences with shame or stigma, and the ways people learn to cope and survive. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe showing up as their full selves without feeling judged or misunderstood. I value taking time to understand the context behind a person’s experiences rather than making assumptions, and I believe therapy should honor both individual identity and the larger systems and environments people exist within. Navigating different cultural environments has also taught me how complex it can feel to hold multiple identities at once or to feel caught between expectations, responsibilities, and personal needs. Those experiences have deepened my empathy and my ability to sit with people in uncertainty, transition, and growth. My approach to therapy is strengths-based, collaborative, and grounded in compassion. I believe people already carry resilience, insight, and survival skills within them, even during moments when they may feel disconnected from those strengths. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, feel more empowered in their choices, and create change in ways that feel authentic and sustainable for them.
