LCSW, 11 years of experience
My therapeutic style could best be described as a fusion between Krav Maga and Aikido. An approach that is natural, simple, efficient, based on individual expectations and one that gets close to the problem to neutralize its effects with minimal force and maximum results. Sometimes a problem requires direct action, other times, stepping into the problem is what is needed. I challenge people to switch off auto-pilot, to be an active participant in their thoughts, feelings and perceptions as opposed to being a passive observer watching life go by. I challenge people to actively engage their thoughts, feelings and perceptions, to ask hard questions, test assumptions and then summon the courage and gather the strength needed to judge their thoughts, feelings and perceptions and change them into something new. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Masters Level Certified Addictions Professional in the state of Florida. I am a Certified Anger Management Treatment Specialist as well as a Certified Facilitator for Prepare/Enrich Ministry (Marriage Preparation). I specialize in all forms of addiction-related issues and subsequent problems (stress and anger control issues, conflict resolution challenges, trust and reconciliation difficulties etc.). I have been in the helping and service field for 10 years, serving in a variety of capacities from clinical administration, supervision and mentoring to direct clinical psychotherapy serving non-profit organizations, correctional settings (Department of Corrections and County Jail) along with private practice, and currently with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
In our first session, I'll ask a global question or two (i.e. what brings you in today?) and then based on the answer that is provided, explore with additional open ended questions and ensure that what is being communicated is correct and accurate. With a clear and accurate understanding of the presenting problem, I'll then assess current thoughts, feelings and actions surrounding the presenting problem and have the individual subjectively assess themselves in critical areas which support effective growth and outcomes.
My biggest strengths are active and reflective listening, problem identification, root analysis and guiding the client through deep introspection in a safe environment. I'm effective in working with individuals who may be apprehensive about therapy, and those who have "tried therapy" before without success and working with individuals that aren't sure if they want to change.
I work best with those that want to see changes in their lives and are willing to put in the work and learn how to be effective change agents in their own lives, particularly when they don't feel like it. Change is challenging, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Having the realization that either something needs to change or that something could be better, is generally, all that is needed to begin the process of change. Adult male and female (18 years of age and older) Individuals that struggle with anger, irritability, emotional regulation difficulties Individuals that want to improve how they communicate with others (verbally and non-verbally Individuals that want to learn how to finally resolve problems and get off the "not so merry-go-round" of problems Individuals that want to improve their mood and reduce worry and anxiety Individuals wanting to explore alternative career or educational opportunities or find out what they want to do with their life
I use Biblical principles and concepts from the Book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and other Books in the Bible to address current struggles and difficulties and to create solutions that align within the Christian Biblical framework.
