I have been in the field for over 20 years. I have found myself over the years working with truly and eclectic group of people. My clients tend to be solution focused, open to understanding who they are and what they really want out of life. I have a unique understanding of alternative lifestyles and relationships. I approach therapy as client centered, meaning this is your time, judgment free zone and nothing is off limits for discussion. My clients drive the topics with my support and suggestions to help get them on the road to their personal goals. I use more of a fire-side chat approach to helping drive toward your wants and needs. My sessions are not typically clinical and "stuffy" but an open dialogue that uses humor and compassion.
During our first session, I may ask a lot of questions, but it is more of a get-to-know you time for us. You are welcome to ask me questions as we start to build the road map that brought you to therapy. I will make every attempt to leave you with tools to aid in improve sleeping, focus, and reducing anxiety during our first call. It is always helpful if you come with a list of things you want to work on, but it is not necessary.
I feel like one of my greatest strengths is being down to earth. I have spent many years working in shelters and helping out as much as I can to those around me. I have spent time as a baby goat nanny, years playing roller derby, and a lifetime fishing on the water from commercial to competitive angling. I am also PMP (project management) Certified and a Level 2 Wine Cert (WSET2) among other things. I embrace and encourage the random. You want to learn how to fly a plane, then I am the one to help you find a way to do it.
I have a history knowledge of committing heavily to the church life only to find later in my years this was not the practical approach for my own development. I have helped individuals over the years come to a new understanding of who they are when they realized the person they were raised to be may have not been the person they truly are and this can apply to any life change, such as career, education, religion, family or sexuality. As we age, we change, things we once thought were true no longer resonate with who we are. Our coping skills change, our understanding and values evolve into the person we are becoming. Many clients I have encountered have learned later in life they spent their younger years fighting with Anxiety, ADHD and depression only to realize merely just "functioning" is getting in their way of being the best versions of themselves.
I have utilized MI treatment modality the last several years and have found this method to be effective with clients when is comes to improving motivation, finding insight and their own personal inner strength. I am merely the road map while you are driving the car.
CBT therapy has been widely successful when it comes to breaking habits you would like to change, understanding complicated dynamics in relationships and copings with ADHD and Anxiety.
