Hello! I'm Pema, a licensed mental health counselor with a Hispanic background who brings a multi-cultural, out-of-the-box, patient-centered approach to therapy. Specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, women's issues, dark night of the soul, couples, and relationships of all structures, I use an integrative approach to realize relief of symptoms and healing. My experiences have shaped me into an empathic counselor who connects deeply with clients. My clients start to see results within 2-3 weeks from starting therapy. Working with adults & couples, I create a safe space for healing & growth. Whether you're facing past trauma or current challenges, I'm here to guide you towards resilience & self-discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will go through intake questions and find out what you are seeking to accomplish in therapy with me. We will establish the best way(s) to collaborate for your healing. Finally, I will describe the process of therapy to you and what to expect.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths are that I live and work off the beaten path. I am not a therapist that will ask you "how does that feel?" over and over for 50 minutes. I am here for your healing- fully present. I am someone who was greatly helped by therapy early in life and I know what a difference a loving, connected provider can make so I show up as a loving, connected provider to each of my clients.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I work really well with men and women a get 18 and up, women at all stages of their lives, clients who are struggling with their identity from entering different stages in life, relationships of all structures, people trying to heal from trauma or PTSD, people who have experienced sexual trauma, people who have experienced family conflict, pre- and post-partum women, anxiety, depression, people who have or are affected by Narcissistic personality disorder, and people experiencing dark night of the soul.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to challenge faulty beliefs that have been accommodated and assimilated through repetition or with time. I provide psychoeducation regarding cognitive distortions and the cognitive triangle to start the process.

EMDR

I am EMDR trained through Connect EMDR and have been doing EMDR for a year. It has helped clients move through all different types of mental health concerns, from severe trauma to milk anxiety and everything in between.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I used DBT as a whole or take from its four branches- emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and mindfulness- to help clients create change and heal. I use a lot of emotion regulation exercises for people with anxiety, interpersonal effectiveness works well for social anxiety, distress tolerance is helpful for people experiencing challenges or trauma, and mindfulness I use with everyone because it is a tool that is helpful in any situation.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

For many clients, I have begun therapy with CPT and then gone into EMDR for help with PTSD symptoms or traumatic experiences. CPT really has a way of helping shape your thoughts and beliefs differently by really taking a look at them in depth.
