Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed in Virginia and Florida. I received my Masters from Boston University and have been practicing for 3 years. I have experience working with all ages with a focus on mood disorders, parenting, family dynamics and interpersonal skills. If you are looking for a compassionate and understanding counselor who is committed to helping you reach your goals, we may be a good fit!
In our first session together, we'll begin by getting to know each other and establishing a comfortable and safe space for you to express yourself openly and honestly. I'll invite you to share what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our time together. Together, we'll start to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a collaborative manner. By the end of the session, we aim to have a better understanding of your needs and preferences, and we'll discuss potential strategies or approaches that may be helpful as we move forward in your therapeutic journey.
I bring a unique combination of empathy and compassion to my practice. With a deep commitment to social justice and advocacy, I approach each client with an understanding of the systems that impact their lives. I use evidence-based interventions to tailor my approach to meet the individual needs and goals of each client. My strength lies in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, validated, and empowered to explore their experiences and challenges while working to achieve their individual goals.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps clients accept their thoughts and feelings rather than focus on challenging their thoughts and feelings. ACT focuses on increasing behaviors that are in line with our values. We will use ACT to help bring more vitality and meaning to life by helping create and achieve goals that increase cognitive flexibility, acceptance, and mindfulness.
I have been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients recognize patterns in their thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. We will use CBT to help you recognize these patterns and how they influence each other. Through our work together, we will work to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns to help lessen anxiety, stress and depression. CBT can help you better understand your behavior, learn problem solving skills, and learn coping skills.
I have a strengths-based approach to therapy. This approach focuses on identifying and building upon an individual's strengths, resources, and abilities. Strengths-based interventions focus on utilizing your inherent strengths and capabilities to overcome challenges and achieve personal growth.
I use Family therapy interventions to help clients address relational dynamics and promote positive change within familial systems. I use interventions from structural family therapy to help clients restructure dysfunctional family hierarchies and create boundaries to promote healthier interactions. Together, we will work on family goals related with the aim to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and foster greater understanding and cohesion within the family unit.
I utilize a trauma informed framework during my work with clients. This approach focuses on creating a culture of sensitivity and responsiveness in the therapy room, where clients are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, and their experiences of trauma are validated without judgment. Through our work, we will create therapeutic goals focusing on establishing safety and boundaries, fostering collaboration and choice, and empowering clients to regain a sense of control and agency in their lives.
