Hi, I’m Jennifer, therapist and owner of IASO Counseling Services. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationships, work stress, and all the other fun surprises that come with being a person. My approach is warm, direct, practical, and very human. Therapy with me is less “sit on this couch and tell me about your childhood” and more “okay, what is actually happening, and how do we make your life feel a little more manageable?” You don’t have to have it all figured out. We can figure it out together.

First session

You’ll leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of what we’re going to work on together. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what’s been going on, and what you’d like to be different. No pressure to have everything neatly organized; I’ll help us make sense of it together. Most importantly, you’ll get a feel for me and for whether we’re a good fit. Therapy works best when you can be yourself, so I want that first conversation to feel comfortable, collaborative, and maybe even a little fun.

Strengths

I think one of my biggest strengths as a therapist is that I’m genuinely curious about people. I want to understand what makes someone tick—not just what’s written in their chart. I’m warm and relational, but I’m also direct. I’ll absolutely validate where you are while also helping you look at what might need to change. I bring a lot of humor, practicality, and real-world perspective into the room, and I try to make therapy feel like a place where you can actually be yourself. I also have a particular passion for helping people understand themselves better, especially when their brain or circumstances don’t fit the neat little boxes they were given.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are adults who are ready to understand themselves a little better and make some meaningful changes in their lives. I especially enjoy working with women and adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, relationships, career or workplace stress, and major life transitions. I tend to connect best with people who are curious, willing to be honest, and maybe a little tired of being told to “just try harder.” If you’re looking for a therapist who will listen, laugh with you, challenge you when needed, and help you turn insight into something actually useful, we’ll probably work well together.

Treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use DBT because sometimes understanding why we feel or react a certain way isn’t enough—we also need to know what to actually do about it. I use DBT skills to help clients manage overwhelming emotions, communicate more effectively, handle stressful situations, and make choices that feel more intentional instead of reacting in the heat of the moment. And I don’t believe in throwing a giant list of techniques at someone and saying, “Good luck!” We’ll focus on practical tools that make sense for your life and figure out what actually works for you. For me, DBT is ultimately about helping people build a life that feels more manageable, meaningful, and like their own.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help clients stop getting stuck in the endless battle with thoughts and feelings they can’t control. Instead of trying to make uncomfortable feelings disappear, we work on making room for them while still moving toward the things that matter. In plain English: you can feel anxious, overwhelmed, or uncertain and still take the next step. We’ll focus on what you care about and how to build a life around those values, even when your brain has other plans.

Narrative

I use narrative therapy because the story we tell ourselves about our lives can have a huge impact on how we experience them. Sometimes people have spent years believing stories like “I’m lazy,” “I’m too much,” or “I always mess things up.” We can get curious about where those stories came from, whether they’re actually true, and what other parts of the story might have been overlooked. I want clients to see themselves as more than their struggles, diagnoses, mistakes, or other people’s expectations. You’re the author of your life, not just the character dealing with the plot twists.
