Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has lived in both Virginia and Massachusetts. I have experience working with clients of all ages and their families. I have worked or trained in schools, private practice, community mental health centers, and Probate & Family Court. I enjoy helping clients identify their strengths and learn skills to navigate life challenges and transitions.
First of all, thank you for making the time to come to therapy. With everyone's busy schedule, I know this is not easy. Your first session is a "get to know you" session that works in both directions. I will ask some questions to learn about you, and I am happy to answer questions you may have about me. We will go over important policies and procedures, client rights, and expectations. Then we will talk a bit about what brought you to therapy and your goals for treatment. Finally, we will discuss a plan for when and how often to meet.
In general, I pride myself on my ability to connect with a variety of clients. I make it a point to take time to get to know you and understand your point of view. And I've been told I have a great sense of humor. From my prior training/employment, I have a lot of experience with psychological assessment and learning.
Tegan Snigier offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
My general approach is client-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. In terms of the specific techniques I use, I believe in using the best therapeutic approach to fit each client's needs at the time. Why not take the best from each style of therapy? I use several different techniques, but in a very intentional way to help each client meet their therapeutic goals. Some of the approaches that I use include: cognitive behavioral therapy (looking at thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), acceptance and commitment therapy (accepting the way things are right now, and also how to change them), dialectical behavior therapy (a variety of strategies, but my favorite is how to tolerate distress), motivational interviewing (how can we get you excited to change), and solution-focused (finding concrete ways to reach your goals).
