My name is Katelyn and I earned my Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University and have over 5 years of experience providing therapy to clients recovering from trauma and abuse, healing from depression and anxiety, and hoping to increase their skills use. I earned my Bachelor's in Education and worked for a couple years in the special education setting of a middle school. I love utilizing my education background with clients to teach new skills and support families as they navigate the education system as well. Currently, I only offer telehealth appointments from anywhere in Ohio and have availability for morning and mid-day times. I do not have any evening or weekly availability at this time. I am able to schedule appointments every other week or monthly. I am honored you would consider me for your therapy!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, I will gather information about your current symptoms and challenges you are facing. I will ask about your goals for therapy and why you are interested in services at this time. I will also want to know more about your childhood, family history, work and education history, and other barriers and challenges you have faced - also keeping in mind that assessment is ongoing - so we will likely not cover it all in the first appointment and it is okay if there are things you are not ready to talk about yet! We will also define your goals for therapy and I will share more about myself and my training, treatment options, and decide what will be helpful in your personal healing journey.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I use a calm and empathetic approach to ensure that clients feel heard and understood and also validated in their experiences. By listening intently and providing care and support, I am also able to gently challenge clients where needed in order to support them in their growth and increase ability to manage their problems.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with adult and adolescent clients who are open to learning new skills, challenging their thinking, and understanding how past events that have happened in their life impact their mood and behaviors today. The clients that I work with are often in the middle of life transitions and need support increasing their skills use and improving thinking patterns to support growth and coping with these changes.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I provided full program DBT for 2 years, with experiencing in providing DBT skills group, individual therapy, and phone consultation in DBT. I continue to be DBT-informed and teach DBT skills with most of my clients, including skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and dialectics.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients struggling with depression and anxiety and life transitions. This treatment approach allows me to provide education on skills and address thinking patterns that affect current problem areas.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I am trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and use this approach within therapy to teach the foundations of mindfulness, practice mindful breathing techniques, body-scans, and mindful movement as a tool for relaxation and processing emotions.

EMDR

This therapy model promotes integration of charged trauma memories through experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movements or auditory in telehealth) while focusing on a specific memory, which allows the brain to complete its natural healing process, that may have become stuck during and after trauma. EMDR is an 8-phase treatment, which includes identifying specific targets and themes where the client is feeling stuck, re-processing the trauma memories, and installing more positive beliefs about self.

Very caring and understanding. Validating. I do however think I need to be pushed harder with therapy. She is excellent for talk therapy. I enjoyed her very much.

I’ve been having challenges with family and medial issues. I needed someone who truly listens and gives feedback and she does an amazing job helping me sort these things out in my brain. I am in a completely new state of mind and feel good after each session
