Have you been overwhelmed with trying to navigate through the way you show up in your relationships with others, making you question your own self-identity? The goal is to help my clients navigate through some of these feelings/emotions with self-curiosity and compassion.
Have you been overwhelmed with trying to navigate through the way that you show up in your relationships with others, making you question your own self-identity more than you should?
I will always help hold a safe space for my clients to explore new therapy tools through a lens that is focused on self-discovery. One strong area of knowledge I offer is being trained in EMDR, standing for (Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Re-processing), which is a newer trauma-informed therapy that can be a good fit for clients that have tried therapy in the past and still feel stuck in a problem or are not sure if progress was even made. This is only one of the types of therapy approaches I offer. We will decide together what feels most supporting for you in our time together.
First session
My approach is gentle, encouraging, and client-centered. I create a supportive space where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace while thoughtfully challenging patterns of avoidance, resistance, or people-pleasing that may show up in the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help clients feel safe and understood in session.
Strengths
My approach is gentle, encouraging, and client-centered. I create a supportive space where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace while thoughtfully challenging patterns of avoidance, resistance, or people-pleasing that may show up in the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help clients feel safe and understood in session. The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and understanding what brings you into session. There is no expectation that when a client arrives to an intake session. This time is all about building trust and rapport takes time and comes first.
Ideal clients
My therapist lens promotes a strong emphasis on working with adult male clients, ages (18–65+) identifying under the LGBTQ umbrella, who may find themselves feeling stuck in life, experiencing challenges related to their self-identity, causing them to often people-please and shut down communication in (romantic, family, and social) relationships. Self-empowerment will always be the framework in the work we do.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
Attachment wounds are easy to overlook because we have learned to somehow navigate through them in our adult lives, telling ourselves "that's just the way things are in my adult life now". We never really deal with the core issues that come up and all the moments of dysregulation and so, we hope for the best, until real trouble starts to crop up in our friendships, love life, dealing with ongoing family conflict, and our other interpersonal relationships. During our work together, we will explore how the past shows up today by tapping into inner child work and explore attachment styles together in a safe and supportive space.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Learning to recognize when our automatic negative thoughts show up as the right answer, also known as black-and-white thinking. We will challenge these thought patterns together through a mindfulness approach, helping us address the behaviors that hide behind our emotional dysregulation. We will learn new emotional regulation skills together with helpful tools by addressing some of our negative core beliefs. It is important to challenge some of our thinking that is not helpful for us. I work with my clients to create an adaptable space with a person first approach, rather than expecting the person to adapt to a particular therapy style.
EMDR
EMDR stands for Eye-Movement-Desensitization-and Reprocessing, which is a more structured and human first way to address some of the blockages that can come up during trauma-informed therapy, especially for clients that have tried therapy before and still feel stuck in their problem or have not seen the progress they had hoped for. This therapy tool adapts and follows the clients lead. It helps address some of the heavier life stuff that we've been holding onto for a long time in a more humanistic and client self-paced approach.
Somatic
We will explore and address mental health symptoms of overwhelm and other forms of anxieties that show up by learning a new understanding of how our daily stressors can easily hijack our fight or flight response system and then onto our nervous system. This often turns into things like negative thinking, the self-critic, and even our avoidant behaviors towards friends and family, when it shows up in negative ways connected to the physical body. We will find new personalized tools that work best for us - then we can use them through techniques involving breathwork and facilitating a safe space for that, tapping activities, mind to body connection, and other grounding techniques or exercises together.
