New to Grow
I tend to be very positive and cheerful in general. I have a storied life with many challenges I have overcome to find success in many ways and love helping others overcome and find their own successes. I have degrees in philosophy, psychology and social work and have many hobbies. I am creative and love creating art in many forms. I am also passionate about animals and enjoy time with my dogs and family and spending time in nature.
Our first session will include the intake and questions about you and what problems you want help working through in therapy to help guide treatment. I also like learning about what has worked for you in the past and what has not been helpful in working through problems, and what style works best for you. This session will also focus on gaining understanding about your current life, culture, values and situations, your strengths, successes and interests which help with growth and positive changes. We will go over any expectations we have for each other, length of treatment, and review what I have to report by law and answer any questions you may have.
I have overcome many challenges in life while being able to maintain resilience and maintain strong sense of humor and positive outlook and that informs my work with clients. I adapt to my clients. There are times when we need someone to be quieter and hold space with us and times when we need challenged and pushed. I will meet you where you are at and focus on your needs in the moment. I have experience with multiple approaches which helps me better meet the needs of diverse clients with diverse challenges.
I am able to serve most clients and connect with folks where they are at. The clients who tend to report working best with me are often those who are diagnosed with personality disorders, men and women who are middle aged or older, and clients who are focused on working toward their therapy goals and who are change-oriented. I have worked well with clients from most backgrounds, ages and with most diagnoses.

Treatment methods are the methods we have been trained in and have experience in. Coming from Community Mental Health, I have exposure to working with most populations of people and most diagnoses, and therefore experience with many approaches to therapy. I tailor to the style of the client and what works best for them. Most therapy approaches involve some kind of CBT which is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and in a nutshell, sees change as stemming from making changes to our thinking, or how we see things. The mind is very powerful and our mind and body believe what we constantly remind them and respond accordingly. Narrative therapy is also a key element of most therapy. We all have stories. A story can be told from many different perspectives. Do we focus our movie camera on the perspective of the person in the movie who only saw all the challenges that happened in an experience or the perspective of the person who tended to see all of the lessons and possibly even some beauty in those challenging situations? Which movie would you prefer to watch over and over and how does it affect you? Certain diagoses are known to respond to certain interventions, Exposure and Response Prevention is used with OCD, for example, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy for working with personality disorders which is very skill based, and most clients enjoy learning. For kids and families, Family and Play therapy are used to help parents gain needed skills and help clients use the language of play to safely communicate and work things out through playing.
