(she/her)
Hello, my name is Tyhesia Washington, and I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas, D.C., and Maryland. I am deeply interested in and committed to helping people work through the complexities of life. So many things happen to us that are outside our control and impact how we view ourselves, the world, and the people around us. Sometimes, those situations cause scars that band-aid solutions can't fix. I am here to help you navigate those situations and the scars left behind in a way that focuses on collaboration and healing. This journey is for YOU and about YOU. I hope you walk away from our time together understanding more about yourself and confidently using skills/tools to address your needs.
In our first session together, we'll start with introductions (I want to learn what makes you, you), and then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
In my four years of being a clinician, I have learned that being myself is one of the best ways to authentically build a therapeutic relationship with a client. Clients have told me that they feel as though they are talking to a friend who just has a clinical background. I pride myself on providing a safe space for you to let your walls down, have an impartial ear to listen to your needs, and be present in your journey toward healing.
I love working with adults (18-35) who are striving to improve their lives, but perhaps you are struggling to identify what needs to change and how to make those changes. Whether it's transitioning into a new season of life, learning how to build healthy relationships with others, or struggling with overwhelming thoughts, I am here to help! An ideal client would be someone willing to put in the, sometimes hard, work it takes to heal. Therapy can be scary, and the thought of talking to a stranger about your problems every week might not seem like the most fun way to spend an hour of your day. However, that hour (plus homework) could be the key to actualizing the life you always imagined for yourself. It is important to remember that healing is not linear. There will be periods where you feel better and periods where it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. It is okay to not be okay. I am here to help you develop skills and tools to manage the ups and downs in your life that keep you on the best path for you!

Strength-Based
I use a strength-based treatment method to work with clients because this modality is centered around believing that a client can make changes in their lives. With open communication and encouragement, this modality helps clients identify what is most important to them and use that information along with their strengths to change problem areas in their lives. This approach prioritizes a client's independence, resilience, and ability to actively make choices to improve their well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral therapy is a treatment modality aimed at helping clients understand the connection between thought patterns, feelings/emotions, and behavior and how these work together to impact their overall well-being. CBT helps clients examine how they interpret events and how those interpretations impact their feelings and behaviors. I find CBT to be extremely helpful in leading clients to change unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving to improve their quality of life.

I feel as if I am talking to a friend, but one who also knows how to help me look and dig deeper than the surface of what I am saying. I feel like this is the one space I can say everything and not feel as though I have to filter anything for feelings or what others will think. Which in turn helps me honestly work through the thoughts and emotions and gain insight and create solutions if needed.

This was my first meeting so of course we still have more to learn about each other, but I like the straight forward approach. I appreciate that I didn't feel rushed and I look forward to seeing what's next.

It was so easy to open up to Tyhesia! I felt really heard and welcomed and she was patient when I was finding my words to respond. I can't wait for the next session and the one after that!!
