I am licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist, yet my main focus is on how the individual works within their environment through the relationships they have with others and with themselves. I work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, which often times creates difficulty in setting healthy boundaries within relationships. I work on supporting the individual in becoming more aware of how patterns of behavior may show up across multiple areas of their lives. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to identify strategies they can practice or work on, while also providing information about the nervous system.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First session tends to be more interview-like, as I try to gather as much information about past and current challenges. Because I am person-centered, I like to get a comprehensive understanding of who you are, and if you feel it is a good fit, we will discuss in more depth current challenges in subsequent sessions. The first session may feel more rigid due to questions I may ask (eg. relationships with parents and other family members, co-workers, current coping strategies, length of time symptoms have been present, overall personal history), and if a question ever feels difficult to answer or if you do not yet feel comfortable in answering it, it can be something we could try and revisit at a later time.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I make a concerted effort to really know you. I believe many people are looking for safety, and when it comes to sharing the vulnerable parts of ourselves, feeling safe in doing so is paramount to the healing process. Due to my person-centered approach, sessions are not structured. The focus becomes the individual; sharing their story and finding their way with a trusted other who provides guidance and moments of pause. These moments are to help you reflect on progress or recognizing patterns that you have identified wanting to change. As a therapist, I feel my main strength is holding your experiences, and supporting you in gaining wisdom and insight from yourself.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am here to work with the person who tries to do it all. I am here to work with the person who does not provide themselves the space to recharge or be cared for. For some it may be a feeling of 'not deserving,' for others it may be the fear of 'what happens if I am still.' I work with individuals who are motivated and driven to make changes in their lives, even if what they are currently driven to do is attend therapy and figure it out from there.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Sessions are client-lead, meaning topics that they would like to discuss and work on are the focus. Supporting clients in feeling empowered to share their experiences and improving their self-awareness, are main factors in how I use person-centered therapy.

Compassion Focused

Using compassion focused therapy, I help a client become self-aware around how they socially interact with others and use elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy to explore how their thoughts, actions, and emotions connect. Mindfulness, understanding the nervous system, and human development are discussed through use of psychoeducation and how it relates to the individuals experiences.
