My name is Janessa Butts, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a background in military service. I hold a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, with specialized training in mental health, substance use, and trauma-informed care. My clinical background includes working in inpatient settings, supporting clients with complex mental health concerns, co-occurring disorders, chronic health conditions, ADHD, and more. These experiences have deepened my commitment to individualized care rooted in compassion and respect.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy is a meaningful step, and our first session is an opportunity to begin building a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and collaboration. We will review confidentiality, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore your personal history to help me understand your life experiences, values, and strengths.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I approach therapy with calm, clear communication and a strong commitment to building a supportive, collaborative relationship. Together, we will create a space where you feel heard and understood. Through active listening and empathy, I will work alongside you to address both immediate concerns and long-standing challenges.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with individuals who are ready for meaningful change. Whether you are navigating a recent trauma or carrying the weight of long-standing challenges, I provide a supportive space to help you process your experiences, build resilience, and move toward lasting, positive growth. Change can feel difficult and overwhelming at times, but you do not have to face it alone.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I believe therapy should be flexible and responsive to each person’s unique needs. Using an eclectic, client-centered approach, I tailor treatment to your individual goals and strengths while drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

EMDR

As an EMDR-trained clinician, I incorporate this approach when clients feel ready to begin processing trauma. While trauma work can be challenging, EMDR can support deep healing, help reduce the impact of painful experiences, and empower you to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

If you have ever found yourself thinking, “Part of me feels this way,” Internal Family Systems (IFS) may be a meaningful fit for you. This approach helps you connect with different parts of yourself, including those that may feel overwhelming, critical, protective, or deeply hurt, with greater understanding and compassion. By fostering a more balanced and connected relationship within yourself, IFS can support healing from past trauma while also helping to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
