About
Hi there! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). My approach to psychotherapy is based in collaboration with clients. My goal is to assist you in identifying the underlying causes of your current, or long term, distress and/or to manage current symptoms. I firmly believe that each of us possesses an inherent potential for healing & growth. Please visit my website to learn more! https://www.csccounselingfl.com/
These experiences have allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the nuances of addiction, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders.
First session
Our first session will be spent getting to know each other. We will discuss what is bringing you to therapy at this time, what has or hasn't worked for you in past therapeutic experiences (if you have had any) and setting goals for treatment. This initial session gives you the opportunity to determine if we are a good "fit."
Strengths
Throughout my career, I have worked in a wide variety of treatment settings - ranging from highly acute residential to outpatient. These experiences have allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the nuances of addiction, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders.
Ideal clients
My clients are individuals who seek connection, unconditional positive regard, empathy - and an appropriate dose of humor! - in their therapist. I specialize in eating disorders, substance use disorders, and mental health disorders including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, mood disorders and PTSD. I have worked extensively at all levels of care at nationally-recognized facilities specializing in eating disorders and substance use disorders. I aim to empower clients, both adults and older teens (16+), to discover their own solutions and to develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework to assist clients in understanding how their thoughts impact their feelings and behaviors. Once we are able to identify unhelpful and self-defeating thoughts, we can work together to reframe these thoughts into more adaptive beliefs.
Attachment-based
Through my practice, I have seen how our early childhood experiences can have a profound impact on our current functioning. By exploring attachment and relationships with our primary caregivers, we can often uncover the genesis of present issues in relationships and communication.
EMDR
I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to assist clients in the alleviation of distress caused by trauma. I have completed the 50-hour EMDRIA-approved basic training.
Positive Psychology
By using a positive, strengths-based approach, I help clients to to shift their focus to positive experiences, sensations, self-statements.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT techniques to target self-destructive behavior, reduce therapy-interfering behaviors, improve quality of life, and to teach you how to apply skills.
