Leslie Allen
My name is Leslie and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I have been practicing mental health therapy for over 17 years. I chose to become a Therapist because I noticed over the years that people seemed drawn to talk to me and I was often told that I have a very "disarming" personality, and that I have a very "safe, calm and nurturing disposition." I innately possess avery empathic, kind and helping nature which immediately felt by others with whom I interact. In my private practice, Resilient Minds Psychotherapy, I am committed to providing affirming, culturally responsive care to a diverse range of clients. I welcome individuals from many backgrounds and I tailor my treatment to your unique experiences, values and goals. I believe we all have the capacity to be "Resilient" , and with gentle guidance and support, I will assist you with finding your resilience.
First session
When clients join me for their first session, they will be met with a warm and compassionate environment that promotes trust and comfort. The main focus of the first session will be to establish rapport so that you will know that you will have a safe environment to share whatever you would like to share. I will introduce myself and describe my method of therapy, discuss confidentiality, appointments, consent, etc.
Strengths
There are unique aspects of my personality which make my therapeutic approach stand out and bring clients success with reaching their goals in treatment. I am a very introspective , feeling and observant person which gives me an insight and discernment in to the roots of problems and challenges that my clients face. These qualities influence my therapeutic approach in that when I see an issue of concern, I serve as a patient, compassionate and empathetic guide for them to develop insight in to what's concerning them and guide them as to how they can elicit positive outcomes.
Ideal clients
My ideal client can come from any ethnic, socio-economic, gender cultural or religious background. Ideally, the client desires to improve some area of their lives and will commit to consistent engagement with me to assist them in their journey towards health and happiness. I would hope that their mindset would include being courageous enough to participate in exploring any concerns that can be negatively impacting their happiness. Together, we can improve their overall mental well being and happiness.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Throughout our lives, our experiences can cause us to develop negative thoughts called maladaptive thinking that can contribute to uncomfortable, negative feelings and behaviors. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist you with identifying the negative thoughts that are contributing to unwanted feelings and behaviors. Together, we modify these thoughts by replacing them with more healthy and adaptive thoughts that yield more positive feelings, behaviors and outcomes.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I utilize Person-centered therapy to build a strong rapport with you where you feel, compassion, empathy and positive regard that will allow you feel comfortable enough to share your thoughts and feelings.
